OK, here we go then, i have been looking at these Mirage kits and they look fairly good in terms of cost for power. I have around £2000 to spend building an engine i want to get reasonable power like 100 bananas at the wheels so that would be around 120 at the fly?

I want to now if it is possible with this kit and also what i would need to do it, stock bottom end, Kent 266 cam? Also what kind of head would i need? I have nothing so far and want to get moving on this as quick as possible.

Any advice much appreciated.

Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Its easilly possible! I have 111bhp at the wheels using a R5 t2 running 6 psi boost. Head is a Benross special! Avonbar phase two cam, std bottom end with centre mains strap, and megajolt. Would recomend spending a little money on transmition especially drops and diff, std box is ok if in servicable condition.

Awesome, what would you start with as a base and what kind of head would you use?

Hi,
Bog standard everything in the engine will do up to about 10 psi, even the cam.
Head upgrade, only really if you're going to run more than 10psi.
G/box upgrades mentioned above worth doing to save you hassle down the road.
Intercooler and Megajolt should be top of the add on list for reliability and driveablility.
Welcome to TM *wink*

Gavin :)

Thanks for the welcome and help.

To get 120 at the fly will i need around 12psi and also would that involve a better head? I want to have the 150 max to run every now and again if i wanted to what would i need?

Hi,
You'd probably get 120 at around 8-10 psi.
I don't think you can push the std R5 turbo much past 10, I might be wrong.
Past 10psi you'd want to lower the compression a little, Benross on here is your man for a head.
Cam choice is going to depend on how much petrol you want to put in it! *surprised*
150 Bananas is going to want a straight cut g/box and a grey pre verto clutch.
Once you get past 10psi it starts to get expensive very quickly....
Cheers,
Gavin :)

120ish is easily possible with a Mirage Manifold, just have a look at what Nic & Iain are making with there Mirage Manifolds.

Nice thanks everyone, for 150 bananas could i get away with SC drops?

EDIT: and a X-Pin diff

Basically as long as i dont go far over £2k then i dont mind. I just need help deciding what is needed.

Also what intercooler would you suggest

I would definitely go for the X-Pin diff, not sure about the drops, I'm sure one of the others will advise.

As for ICs most people go for what ever they find that fits. The Cossy ones have a good reputation and the RS turbo one isn't bad little IC.

If i can not go for the drops it would be good and save me some money to put in elsewhere. Been looking at the IC's does £180 seem about right?

I will stick with 10psi then to make it cheaper and easier.

So then will that mean i do not have to lower the compression ratio, i will not need to change the cam, but i will need a X-Pin and will i need to change the head to get the 120 bananas?

Hi,
A Cossie or RST intercooler can be had off e bay for under £50 *wink*
As long as your CR is not above 9.4:1 you should be fine. Most are 9.4, early MG engines were 10:1.
I'd leave the head, see how it goes. You can alway change the head later on.
Cam .. MG metro N/A cam or the Kent equivalent.
Have a search on the site, you'll turn up loads of useful info, keep you busy for hours! :)
