It's engine rebuild time again. Having not had to remove the engine for the last three, nearly four years now has been great, but it's time to give it a rebuild. It's run a minimum of 10psi but has been running 20psi for the last two.
I've just changed jobs & am on a shit wage at the moment so money's tight.
So i need to decide whether to stretch to forged items again or whether a good cast item will do the job.
I may have to go with a cast set as i really don't know if i can afford £450 for forged ones.
I know the stock Metro Turbo ones will take 15psi, i'm guessing the cast Omegas are a similar quality ? Any suggestions, before i rape my wallet ?
I know this has probably been covered but i wanted some up to date suggestions.
Oh i'll be going 1310 +0.040".

Cheers
Phil.

I'd get it in bits and assess the state of whatever is in there before getting too excited about buying new pistons.

i've been using the cast AE ones 21253's for the past 3 or 4 years now and i can't fault them. been running 10psi minimum and 15psi quite often, been up to 20psi a few times with no issues either.

they're the proper budget jobbies aswell, something like £180 a set from morspeed dished out to 13cc.

phil as tom says have a look and see what state your bores are in.

if they are ok then just rehone , new rings and bobs your uncle.

or do a drop test on the pots they made be ok any how.

the main prob with the turbo mega range is the ring packs are crap.

the comp rings seem ok with 14-16 thou gaps but the oil control are way to big at 40 thou.

and i dont think its sorted yet to be honest.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Hi,
People have been running pistons a good way down the bore, so I don't think squish is much to worry about?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I'd personally go with the bigger dish pistons and be able use a better chamber design in the head.
