starmags what do i do??? polish or paint????

how do chaps, i have some starmags i'm trying to polish, i'm "shit" at this to say the least, is there a knack to it?

i'm not doing to well & have contemplated painting them, what should i do???

polish?
satin-black paint them?
chrome paint i have? not like chrome but its a very shiney reflective silver
other?

i had them blasted which is evening out easily with a DA sander & the back of the rims + the insides i've primed & painted with black stonechip as you can see in the picture, any hints & tips on polishing is appreciated

What are you polishing them with, you need some kind of machine as doing it by hand is a non starter.

Someones painted the grass, tut tut! It would be worth it to get them polished and gloss black the sides of the spokes etc.

should i persevere with the polishing or is it a chrime to paint starmags????

i'm planning on doing it with a polishing kit, i bought two cheapo polishing kits £5 for 2 at a classic car show, i'm fricken useless at it though, could be down to my lack of patiants i'm not sure

i vote paint, recently painted my minilites with some black enamel paint from halfords

Without being awfull if your crap at polishing it might make a mess of them, plus if you dont seal them in ul have to keep polishing them as brake dust and the british weather will just attack the bare alloy.

May be best painting them a bright silver or at least have a go at polishing one to see what its like

Hi,
If you've had them shot blasted you'll have to start with a course wet and dry paper and work your way up to the fine stuff, then polish with Autosol, job done.
Not a quick process, but they will shine when you're done

My Mini build diary

i polished up a set of these before, was a piece of piss really.

Just get hold of one of the abrasive polishing kits off ebay or the like, they come with about 4 wheels and different grades of abrasive compound. stick em in the electric drill and its simple.

Polish them it would be criminal to paint them :)

dont forget a coat of laquer to keep the finish after you polish them

my starmags are painted, polishings to high maintenance for me.

i dont mind polishing them to keep them in good order, i think if i give the polishing idea as nick says......then if they dont look too good i'll prep them for matt/satin black
