ive mounted my alternator on the outside of my engine on my starlet turbo conversion, ive seen this done a few times. but its stopped working after a short while.

can you run an alternator backwards? or do you have to do something else to it or is my alternator just knackered

thanks
carl

Hi,
Check the brushes, they may be worn out or offset in which case they'll break off when ran backwards...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Don't forget the fan guys, if the alt was ment to spin say for instance clockwise and you run it anty-clcokwise it will over heat. Unless you turn the fan trough 180 deg.

Paul.

Or if you turn the fan round will the blades be angled in exactly the same direction.....?
