Well I say different as I couldn't find it using the Search button so no-one has admitted to trying it...

Won on eBay a while ago and finally arrived today.

Literally hanging on a bit of string in the "project" shell.
Would be perfect with a flip front but will need a couple of small holes in the inner wings if I stay steel (haven't decided yet, the inner wings need replacing anyway thanks to a previous owner and his/her hacksaw...)

Laid in the front of a standard 998, coil dropped down but heater air duct tube still in the way on the left.

I think I can make it work.

Core size 85 deep, 105 tall, 420 wide.
Width to end of header stubs 690

Off a "modern" so plastic headers and stuck with that configuration (unless I start plastic welding too....) but can work around that I think.

Any guesses what ???

Joe, wrong.
Paul, close...
Right marque (Blue Oval of mediocrity) but wrong model.
Mondeo Mk3 diesel (TDDi or TDCi).
The Transit one is slightly taller (bigger engine and White van Man driving it harder) so wouldnt fit.
I think I can make this one fit (just).
But if I can't it was cheap - one of those times on eBay when you get lucky....

I think that there are MUCH better options out there than something that make you have to cut the inner wings. Put it on Ebay again!

Why? Do you want it V ???
Shipping to the land of the Vikings will be pricey !!!

Seriously, with a flip front there would be no issue at all.
With a steel front, the amount I would have to remove is considerably less than the radiator hole, or even the heater inlet duct hole.
If it had alloy headers altering he pipe inlet angle would be easy, but with plastic, less options.

Otherwise, the size and shape of the matrix is ideal.

But everyone is entitled to their opinion :):):)

Yes, possible, but the cost (even doing my own fabrication/welding) might outweigh the cost of another "easier to fit" intercooler.

This one only cost me £11.99 (£5.00 starting bid and £6.99 postage, no-one else bid even though an identical one went the week before for £36 plus postage !!!) so, in the cost of my project so far....., peanuts !!!

I would also like to think that the newer "modern" intercoolers are likely to be more efficient for a given size - no proof, but a nice thought !!!

Not sure yet, this is all a bit experimental.
Before I bought it (bid on it) I sized it up compared to a Cossie one, the core is a little bit shorter (good) but the ends are not ideal, and being plastic, harder to modify.

I haven't decided on whether to go for a front rad.... If I do, the intercooler plumbing will be easier (won't have to hack so much of the inner wing and upset Vegard !!!!) and the dizzy and coil won't be there as I'm going Megasquirt injection and coilpack direct ignition.
The size of this one suits a front rad, but I'm still unsure.

Rod.

I think that would be easy to modify. Cut off or unpick the swaged on plastic tanks and place in the bin, make some ally end tanks and TIG them on.

Yes Tom, certainly an option and I may end up going down that route (I have TIG and have done a fair bit of alloy welding... Will be doing a lot more when I make my injection manifold and large plenum) but if I can come up with a layout that uses "standard" parts un-modified, that appeals to me.

Won't know until it's all laid out !!!

But if it's any use to anyone else to see a "common" intercooler with a core that size and how it might fit, all suggestions are welcome.

Hi,
Not having to mod something saves time and/or money, any of which helps a project along.
Having to mod near enough every part takes a lot of time!
Cheers,

It's not a MK3 with the bonnet hinges there.
