Are those metty pumps designed for high pressure though? Like 2.5-3bar constant?

mibby the pump has seen better days, and coped with high flow low pressure operation (carb turbo) but at the increased pressure it jsut couldnt keep the flow up enough. the pumps themselvs however should be up to the job i'd have thought, as they are an efi pump. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

The pump probably is up to the job, but may be getting a bit tired. I doubt that it has anything to do with hooking it upto an EFi fuel rail though. The pump will pump what it is designed for. It won't magically produce more pressure just because it is connected to a fuel rail. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

My metro pump is also noisy, it neesd lots of padding to keep it quiet (but as I assume that you are using the same pump setup as before, you have noticed a change in noise).

I know this sounds stupid, but when i stretched a fluroline silicon hose over mine, the inside split without me knowing, plapping over the end of the pump which cause a reducton in flow, thus causing a backup to the pump and making it noisy! but a replacement black shit hose on there and problem solved! Of course it might not be that easy, just going on personal experience!!! "Cars are a lifetime of pain" |

I'd say the pump. Easy solution is to fit an MPI fuel tank with built in pump.

if it is running the standard ecu ect i would connect up the speed sensor ect. on some peugeots you can run the car fine with the speed sensor off but after a while it will start to run like a bag of shat, missfire stall ect Drives

put guage on tonight. 40psi on idle 50 psi when booting it and 10-20 psi when problem occurs. now i think/hope its a faulty or inadequate pump. ive ordered a new metty turbo pump of ebay (unfortunatly before i read TDs post, Doh)
no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I doubt that it has anything to do with hooking it upto an EFi fuel rail though. pumps produce flow, regulators cause a restriction in teh flow. the restriction causes pressure. 2 engines at 100hp, one on carbs one on efi. both require the same fuel flow. but the efi engine requires this same high flow at 3 bar instead of 3psi. its harder for a tired pump to pump a given flow at a higher pressure. this is a direct effect of hooking it to an efi rail as opposed to feeding a carb. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

the pump seems to cope when booting car. but after a few miles it starts dying as tho either pumps knackered or its having to work to hard and then getting tyred.
no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
