I've had the builders in this week doing some serious mods to the workshop. Now I need to tidy it up, particularly the tool storage.

I want to buy a decent tool cabinet and chest combo. I want something to last a good twenty years.

There are plenty of cheapo options, but the Halford Professional range has caught my eye. It's twice the price but has an impressive spec.

Anyone using these and are they worth the extra money?

I bought a set from Demon Tweeks WITH tools. Very satisfied, and it was only marginally more expensive than the top one you've linked.

That's looks like a bargain V.

Also found this on the bay - same top box as Vs.

Also, I bought that one because it may be carried if you're going for a track day etc. If you get a bigger one, you'll have to be two people to move it. Unless you're fat like Tom.

I've got the Clark professional 5 drawer base and 3 drawer step-up together with an older halfords 9 drawer top box.

They all work well, however my only gripe is that the step up and top box units are only 2/3rds of the depth of the cabinet so restricts the tools that can be stored in them.

PS - keep your eye out at Halfords, they regularly do 1/3 off

The downside of the sealey one is that the top has to be raised to open the drawers. Handy if you carry it around but a bit of a pain if it is just for the workshop & you keep lesser used stuff in the top and then use put more stuff on top.
The mechanism could probably be disabled though.

I have owned the Halfords roller bearing top box and roll cab for approx. 7-8 years and it is as good now as then, would recommend it to anyone.

You might have just missed out on an excellent deal they had recently...buy top box and get roll cab free!!! amazing. It might be worth hanging on or inquiring in store as they do periodically repeat their offers.

the first thing i did on my clarke professional one was slice half the tip of my index finger off on the sharpe edge on the end of the draw handle, so spent an hour filing them down

not impressed by the quality in all honesty

I have that exact set of halfords pro roll cab and top box. Can't fault it for the money, drawers feel nice and its done two years around europe and still lives. Cheap option until i can afford my lista cabinet or snap on box.

I take it the life time guarantee that comes with all professional tools also applies to the tool boxes as well.

The black halfords industrial ones are better than the red ones.
I have one of the red cabs at work and it gets some abuse. Must be 10 years old though and all the drawers still work.

I don't find this a downside. It's great when you're driving a round with it. And YES, it may be diabled.

Not very sunny swanage

ive got a clarke hd+ set up from machine mart, been really pleased with it. In fact since ive bought it, my old man has gone and done exactly the same, as well as a very good friend, as well as two more identical ones that i went and grabbed for last week for work.

been really impressed with them, (somewhat obviously!) but mind you get the right one, the hd+ ones are in a different leauge from any of the other stuff they do...... dont be tempted to just get the hd ones as the drawer rollers are crap......

compares very favourably with my mates snap on dottom unit, in fact the hd+ drawers roll a lot smoother and have much less sideways movement than the snap on!!!!

Can you tell i like them??? :)

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

I would not be at all suprised if they all came from the same factory.

It would appear that as long as you get the ball bearing drawer models, they are up to what I want.

So it is all down to price. I feel a trip to the local Halfords is in order to see what offers they have at the moment.

i use this:
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...ool-chest-range for all my loose tools, had it 5 years now, still works fine!!

I have a rolling base too, but i brought it second hand and it needs replacing. But i mainly buy tools that come in a carry cases, then i neatly pile them onto shelves
