Check all the components and connections around the Max232 IC, this controls the serial interface. |

Some people have problems using some usb-serial converter leads if thats what your using. If you have not already done so i would bung a post on the megajolt site or do a search on there as most problems have been covered on there before.

To help narrow down the problem, does your PC (laptop?) have a genuine serial port or are you using a USB/serial convertor (as suggested above) ??? Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

hi guys, right point im at. I have tried it on my laptop with a usb to serial and on a laptop with a serial port running XP. Both give me the same results, timeout error. its the new V4 unit so i made my own cable but i have checked that over with the multi meter and i have also re-check and checked again the voltages across the unit and it all seem right. so im well stuck. |

If you made your own cable did you wire it pin to pin (identical numbers) or Rx to Tx and Tx to Rx etc. Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

Sorry, I hadn't realised they were using an RJ11 connector instead of a DB9.

i bought a phone cable with the RJ11 already on then cut the other end and wiried a DB9 plug on to it. the db9 is numberd on the front side so i went by the number on that to the pic on the MJ website. Also checked there photo of there wired up db9 and it looks the same. |

Sounds like the cable should be OK then, although might be worth just checking you've got what you think you have got by doing a continuity check with a DVM/multimeter between the relevant pin numbers.

You have have to reboot before it will see the serial mouse. Yes, sorry, it's so long since I've used a real serial connector, I'd forgotten that !!! On 8th Jul, 2008 Bat said:
I can access my ECU with the terminal program to test coms, can this be done with MJ? Alex, why don't you ask that specific question on the Megajolt (AutosportLabs) forum ? I know you can with Megasquirt (its part of the build process to check the serial coms) but isn't obviously so with MJ. Edited by Rod S on 8th Jul, 2008. Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

aparently its possible to use a hyperterminal program that came with some v of windows but not vista, i've downloaded on buti don't understand how to work it. Found a guy who builds these units who says he will take a look at it if i can post it to him. |
