Right, I've been searching and found out that 2" is the prefered size for a turbo exhaust system and that PlayMini is prefered over Maniflow for the exit box, so two questions...

1 Has anyone used these "Fletcher" systems which are currently available at less cost than PlayMini / Maniflow.
Note, reason I'm interested in them is because they are stainless steel as well as being 2".

EDIT - bought the "Fletcher" system now, very nice... so question only about downpipe (title edited).

2 The standard downpipe for a turbo seems to be 1 3/4", but the better ones are 2". The only supplier so far I have found for a 2" one is Avonbar (good) but it appears to be normal mild steel from their catalogue. Has anyone found a 2" downpipe in stainless ???

I've seen threads where people make their own (including the elbow even) but I'm keen to keep the knuckle joint.

Any thoughts people.....

Rod.

(trying to buy all my bits in advance so to get motivated....)

The only downpipe you can buy in 2" is the Maniflow one which Avonbar sell, this is as you said mild steel. I've not seen an aftermarket stainless item, apart from the complete Mirage kit.

make your own and buy a flexi joint from your motorfactors.

Yes, I had thought about that for the downpipe, although there aren't too many Motor Factors in my part of rural Suffolk who would even know what one is *frown*

But I'm still interested if anyone has had any experience with these Fletcher exhausts....

if it comes down to it you could give me the specs that you need and i could get one down while im at work then post it on up to you? at cost only.

just an option if you end up going that way.

Thanks for the offer James. If I decide to go that way (I need to mock it up first and see if it's viable) and can't get one around here I'll PM you.
Now you've suggested it, although there are no decent Motor Factors near me, there is a decent independant tyre/exhaust place not too far away who should probably be able to help.

Right, downpipe question only now.
I took James' advice and got a 2" flexi stainless section to make my own.
I have a 1 3/4" downpipe which I assume is from a Metro (as it's 1 3/4", it came in a box of random turbo bits off eBay) so can I use this as a model for my home made 2" version ???
ie, is there any other difference between the Mini and Metro configuration other than bore size ???
I assume not as they both go down the back of an A series block/box but is the horizontal bit different in any way ???

Isn't the Metro one longer? (ie - from elbow down)

Could be (anything's possible wth Leyland...) but why ??? Does that mean the exhaust was lower on a Metro ???

Or perhaps has to be higher on a Mini once the size is up to 2" to avoid the ground.

Just guessing at the moment...

Hi,
I think I read something about the difference between Metro and Mini downpipes in the Vizzard book.
If the engine is mounted higher or lower in the shell compared the Mini then the length could be different.
I would imagine the horizontal to be the same?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Good point Gavin (Bat) about the engine height in the car, that would explain it if they are different.
I no longer have an A series Metro (car) but I do have the MG Metro engine and its original exhaust so I can do some height measurements relative to gearbox.

Thanks.

Rod.
