I've just bought some Minilites and I'd like to paint them black.

I would of thought just rub them over with wet and dry to give the new paint a key to stick to.

i stripped mine back to bare metal then painted em. I used a mild paint stripper to do the job, then finished off with fine wet and dry to make sure i had all the chav / chemical off the metal mine seem to have worked ok

I'd prefer leaving the primer on... ?? On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

erm then as per Mokle buddy, just make sure you give em a good key with summit like 600 grit then clean the surface with alcohol / similar to get rid of any grease etc etc

I'd do the same and just key them and possibly dust some primer on before the black, just incase the black doesnt take to the keyed laquer.

key them up with scotchbrite pads, a medium grade pad of fine grade will be ok, then a wipe with panal wipe, or thinners, if you wipe them with thinners leave them 10 mins before a quick dust with primer then paint them, if painting them with cans use red-oxide primer for black paint, seems to get a better deeper black with that, or white primer for silver/mettalics, grey for normal colours red/blue/green etc

Wheelpaint in a can.. I've used it previously on some wheels I beadblasted to bare aluminium, then etch primed. Seemed to work fine. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
