Hi guys,

just got my 10" elec fan and i now trying to work out the best way of mounting it. Mite be able to squeeze it in betwen the rad and the wing or i put it in the wheel arch, but then i think i would try and duct the air out but boxing it in. need some thin ally or somthing to do it with.
Am i best taking the mech fan off the water pump? will it block the flow the elec fan will try and pull or will it help with air flow?
thanks

I think the fan will be best fitted directly onto the fan, and I would defo leave the mechanical one as is

If it a'nt broke don't fix it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as gavin says, except i'd mount the fan directly to the rad lol.

you can remove the std fan totaly, but the leccy fan will end up on most of the time in traffic and the temp will be higher (about 90-95 deg) unless you wire in an overide switch.

its best to keep the std fan just incase the leccy one does pack in at an awkward moment.

Can remember I went to electric, got a pacet one, and that was forever on, and soon lost dual carriage and motorway driving as I had temperature gauge 3/4 and boiling most of the time. One day i had, had enough with it and decided to put my standard fan back on and got rid of the leccy and have never seen a day where it has gone past 1/4... so I agree with others, safer, easier option keep the standard no matter what :). Just dont cut the wing out, and if mounted in the wheel arch make sure on full lock it misses it :)

i run a side mounted 2 core rad with an electric fan under the wing and no mechanical fan. my temp gauge sits at 1/4 most of the time but on hot days in traffic it has got as far as "normal"

to make it work you have to seal the rad to the inner wing as well as possible, any holes allow recirculation of hot air and the efficiency is greatly reduced.

if your suffering over heating in traffic with the standard set up, just sealing the rad to the wing will make a difference.

my 10" fan mounted to the wing is working fine, even in the mid 90 degree temps over here..

If you are mounting it on the wing like that, you should deffo seal it off, The Mk1 shroud works fine. If its mounted directly on the rad its not so important but still desirable'

Those who have had problems may not have had the flow right, ie, blow through instead of suck through ???

mine works perfectly and is a suck through

Turbo Tel has fitted the Mk1 cowl so stopping the recirculation of air. i mounted the rad to the inner wing to stop recirculation of air. sound like something in common?
