Hi guys
i have just returned from america and been to pick up my 2000 Mpi mini, i took it down for its it mot which it failed due to high emissions and also the guys said when he was doing the test the car over heated so i took it home and cleaned the whole water system out and took it back, it passed the mot but it is still over heating, it seems that the fan on the front is not kicking in at all and i have no idea why, i have checked the fan and it is working but not when needed? i was wandering if my aftermarket expansion bottle might play apart in it maybe holding to much pressure? i am at a loss really so i was looking for your thoughts? Also do mpis generaly use the fan when sitting still or in traffic?
Thanks

where does the temperature gauge needle sit when driving, and then where does the needle sit when the engine is starting to overheat? Above below or bang on the white line?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

when it is running down the road and the motorway and stuff it sits just normal but and soon as it is standing for more than 5 mins it heats up and then i always shut it off before it hits the red mark on the gauge the fans are not kicking in, should the car need them when it is sitting there or is there a bigger problem?

Not if the gauge is responding.

There is a common problem with the MPis with the cooling fan wiring. I would check this out as there was a recall on these cars for just this reason, the wiring was too short or something.

Other things to look at, Is the fan fuse ok *wink*

Hi,
It's in the main fuse box and there's a relay under the bonnet too. I'm in the bath at the moment so that's the best I can do until I get back from the pub :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi guys its back mpi still overheating, i got a few good months and now it has returned, this time with immense pressure in the system.

i failed it mot again on emissions, so i bought it back had a look round and it appeared that the head gasket was leaking so i replaced it, i have just started it up for the first time again all is working well except for some immense pressure in the cooling system, that much that the pipes are bluging i am now at a complete loss, i have cleaning system out twice still no joy any ideas?
