Hi all
I was driving back from my brothers, when all of a sudden the car started jumping. then the car just cut out.
wouldn't start for the life of me.
So left it for 10 minutes. then tried again and again.
then it started.
I left it till the next day. tried to start with no joy.
Took the plugs out, and they were coated it petrol.
So cleaned them up, and it started right away. after about 1 minute or so, it just cut out again. checked the plugs again, and they were again coated it petrol.
so could someone tell me what the problem could be please :)
thanks alot..

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

like paul says spark
it must be a blue spark and be able to jump around 12mm from the plug lead to the head say....
if this checks out ok
then i suspect that its the float valve in the carb sticking, Avonbar sells new ones

Hi,
Could also be the choke seals, these can cause major flooding too.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I had a flooding problem with my carb this weekend, it was the float valve sticking like Steve said. Took the carb off, flipped it upside down, blew threw the fuel inlet and the valve was still open. So took the float and valve out and just cleaned it all up. Then refitted it and when i blew threw the fuel inlet after that it seemed to be fine.

I got it started again, but had to keep the reves up. did that for 5 minutes, then took my foot off the pedal, and it just cut out again. so trying to get the carb out now. shaun, did you take the carb off with the inlet manifold and
Plenum attached ? i just tried that, but it's too tight for the Plenum to clear the top. what's the best way of getting it all out in one go ?

Cheers

take the dashpot off the carb while its all still connected, then switch on the ignition so the fuel pump kicks in, look down the carb and see if fuel is coming up out of the jet. if it is then the needle valve is either blocked or knackered.

other than that i'd go with choke seals aswell.

I did what you said there. and fuel started coming out.
So try it again, and can't blow thou it now.. that mean the valve was stuck open then ?

An easy trick to try, without removing the carb is to disconnect the power to the fuel pump & run the car until it empties the float bowl & the engine dies. Now reconnect the power to the pump & allow it to fill the float bowl. The fresh wash of fuel usually removes any debris from the valve/seat and allows it to seat properly. Now try restarting.
If this doesn't help, & you need a carb rebuild kit, give me a shout.

Phil. :)

Yer sounds like your valve was stuck open like mine. If you cant blow through the inlet now whilst the carb is held upside down, the valve should be seated correctly.

By the way, just saw your other post. Fuel had flooded into my Plenum as well when i was having this problem.

Thank god for that :) lol nice one.. allsorted
I's it very common for the valve to get stuck open then.
Is there anyway to stop it from happening again. or is it just one of those things ?

Cheers :)
