My wheel base is approx 1/2 inch difference from one side. So measuring from the front wheel rim to the rear is 91inch on one side and 91.5 on the other. Should i be concerned about this or is it one of those things? The subframe is square and as far as i know it has not had a front bump there are no signs to suggest it has anyway.

Hi,
I've been told it's highly unlikely that both sides will be the same on a Mini! *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

its approx 1/2 inch difference on the passenger side.

I am going to measure from corner to corner and find centre then take measurments from there

This is known as set back and can be measured using a decent 4 wheel alignment set up. My car works out about 2-3mm different.
1/2 inch or 12mm is baaaaaaaaaaaaadddddddddd!

I'd say it's not too much to worry about, yes it's not ideal but you're not going to re-shell the car because of it.

Have you checked the caster and the length of the ti-bars?

as will says caster being off could well account for this,

rather than measureing from the wheels you would be better off measuring from the suspension mounting points.

these may be of use,

thanks i will try it out.

I am just having the tracking sorted, the garage are top they keep adjusting till it is right, then i suppose i will have to have the cambers checked and adjusted again?
sorry, suspension setup is new to me. how will the camber which is adjustable front and back compensate for this difference.

Not camber, caster.

The caster is altered by changing the length of the ti-bars, thus moving the wheels forwards and backwards.

DO NOT just adjust them to get the wheel base the same each side. If this was Minisports advise then they need a bollocking.

You need to get the caster set the same on each side. Adjusting the ti-bars to put the wheels in the same position will most likely give different caster on each side, not good.

If the caster is the same each side and the care is still 1/2" out, then so be it.

what do you suggest i have the camber set at front and back, again i am getting mixed messages on what this should be?

I hear what you say wil and thanks. The camber has been up, i am just getting the tracking set. then have the camber checked again.
I have just measured the tie bars and there is 1/4inch differece, but WILL NOT touch them.
sounds like its something that i will have to put up with, bearing in mind it is an old car, so i am sure it has had bumps, knocks, pop wholes on its journey. now i have it *happy*

i have measured the subframe which is all square and the right size.
I have measured from the rear subframe across to the front subframe, both sides measure true.
i have have measured each tie bar which there is a 3mm difference.
I have took a measurment from the bottom corner of the wheel arch to the centre of the tie bar one side is 16inch, the other is 16.5 inch, which is where i am out.
I suspect i need to get the tie bars the right lenght before anything else? but if i do that now it will adjust the camber that i currently have??
