mpi starting/wiper problems please?

hi, i bought a mpi cooper 3 weeks ago and in the last two weeks have fully sorted the bodywork and resprayed it before mini in the park.

when i go to start it now, the wipers come on and the engine wont start, though it turns over.

has anyone experienced this before? does anyone have an idea whats causing this?

i have looked in the haynes manual, but cannot see what the problem might be.

would really love to take this car to mitp this year, have done all the hard work, so if anyone could help it would be greatly apreciated

What have you done to the wiring whilst doing the body work?
It sounds like a bad earth, but check the battery is fully charged before anything else

Are you saying the wipers come on when you turn the key?? were the steering column cables messed with?

no, has been an outside spray job, ie, masked around the window rubbers. have taken the earth off the wipers, they still seem to go. not touched any of the wiring. any ideas anyone?

does it start when you unplug the wipers

the wiper problam sounds like the park switch on the wiper motor to me I have had this a million times befour if you have another wiper motor give it a go befour you go at wiring. the starting problam sounds like the immobiliser is your problam try a new battery in the key fob,
