Just a quick question. I coulnt find any similar problems on here from before. Just got car all together and running a week or so ago and have only drove it around the housing estate a few times but here goes.
It will idle beautifully and rev very respondingly but sometimes youl rev it and the rev counter drops to zero and it cuts out. It does it when driving mostly. Itl cut out then restart itself in about a second when your driving along but just cuts out when sitting still. I havent looked into it much just thought id ask if anyones got any ideas. Its currently running a standard coil. Thats all i can think it could be. Cheers..

Do it do it when its hot or cold?
As above...check the obvious, fuel pump, coil connections

with the rev counter going to zero i would be looking at power to coil, points conection to the coil or maybe even earthing points both in boot and engine bay

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

with the way the revo dies i would say that is pointing to the coil as well.

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Hi,
If you're running an electronic dizzy could be the module packing up...

Cheers for the replys. Come to think of it i would say your on the rite lines because when i tested for power at the coil before i initially started it i only got 9v betweem positive and negative but i got 12v between positive at the coil and the car body but when it started up no problem i thought nowt of it. I think il just try a temporary earth to the coil and see what happens.

that would mean you have 3v coming back down the earth side of the coil or is it too late for my brain to be working.

stick the multimeter between the earth on the coil and the body earth and see what reading you get?

i thought voltage should always be 0 after the last resistance in the circuit...so would i be right in saying that there is most probably high resistance at the coil earth?

What age/model car and which dizzy (points or electronic) ???

8-9V is quite normal and correct on a car that has ballast ignition wiring and is meant for a ballast coil and points but is incompatible if you have fitted an engine with an electronic dizzy.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Is this using the mini rev counter?

I had a similar problem with mine, turned out to be the rev counter going short circuit intermitantly, my mate says he's had a couple do the same too.

Its the avonbar dizzy which is electronic. Its gotta be a bad connection because it runs beautifully when it dosent cut out. Could the standard 12v coil be to blame? Im gonna order a lucas gold coil for it tomorow allthough i plan on running coil pack set up eventually.
