Fuck off you load off old blind bastards. You are telling me when you were young there was no crime? You were just not aware of it because you were young and didn't watch the news. I suppose if you or your mates played knock and run in the good old days it was all harmless fun and everybody though it was such a laugh. I am sure the bloke in the house that you were knocking on in your youth though that in his youth you could wander the streets at night and leave your front door open too. The fact that the 'statistics' say that crime is going down and yet the general public are happier to believe that daily mail and extrapolate a couple of stabbings into a epidemic just proves how gullible you all are. I am not saying that we live in a perfect country, but don’t just perpetuate the myth that every generation of kids lowers the standard of this country.

My rant over.

Kids sometimes jump the fences through the back gardens of our street.

Not got a problem with it to be honest, i think I have more fun than they do when I see them doing it over our fence as I say "cat" and our german sheppard launches up the garden towards the first thing that moves.

Cracks me up because the last few times its happened the same fat kid has been the last over the fence, always a close call, the dog undid his shoelace!

I left school back in 2003, the year below me where the worst bunch of scrotes, and where the most under achieveing the schools ever had.

My mum always blamed the "Thatcher Years", where the attitude was, every man for himself fuck everyone else sort of thing. Now that some of the thatcher generation have had kids, theyre in the schools now and its definately getting worse!

I dont live in a rough area, its rural and pretty quiet. But i live about 10 mins from quite a big housing estate and about 20 mins from the biggest estate in the uk. Now the council are building "affordable housing", flat top scum dens in the nearest town, its gonna be shit! Not taking a dig at anyone who lives in a flat top house, but I mean it will just be a breeding ground for pikey cunts!

Have to say though, i think the worst thing you can come across is a group of girls, who know they can get away with alot more than a group of lads or whatever.

I never did any of that knock and run or fence jumping or anything in my younger years, then again i've always thought my younger years where dissapointing so maybe I should have *tongue*

Sorry Ben but it is that attitude that is leading to the decline of respect and standards in the UK.

It's not the kids that are the problem, but the parents that do not know where their kids are and what the are doing.

Just because we did it when we were kids does not make it right.

I agree with Rich and Paul here im afraid, i work in a school and overall they are fairly decent but they deffinately lack a sense of respect that i know i had when I was at school, i wasnt a saint believe me and door knocking isnt something id get in a twist over. The other day at school i heard a kid telling a teacher to fu$% off! All they did was give him a detention!?!??!

Ridiculous, ive also heard kids shouting "I know my Rights" It just makes me laugh.

It all starts at home and some kids you cant do anything with but its true that we watch and follow actions of our people were around the most.

I think that's the key point here. Kids these days have no respect but we are now at the point where kids get off on challenging adults and authoritative figures as it makes them feel invincible.

I got punched in the face by two 18 year olds the other day when I was coming out of work. Why? Because I am a 6'2" oaf, that makes me a target as they wanted to demonstrate that they can do whatever they want and no-one can stop them.

Hi,
It seems like a wide spread epidemic, I'm taking about the lack of respect/common sense.
[rant]I'm getting pissed off with getting barged out of the way by people coming on to the motorway, or overtaking parked cars on their side of the road! *angry*
It seems that it's now so rare that people stop, when the obstruction is on their side, that we have to wave at each other when they do![/rant]
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Exactly, and when parents pass that "It's OK because I used to do it" attitude on to their kids, either deliberately or because they just don't care otherwise, you can see why society is on an exponential curve downwards.

Quote as many crime statistics as you like, governments (whatever their colour) manipulate statistics to show what they want - just look at the official RPI and CPI figures !!!

Prison population at an all time high, despite the judges being told to impose the minimal possible sentence, communiity service orders instead, life sentences for murder with "a minimum of 8 - 10 years"... shall I go on ??? Somehow things like tht don't convince me crime levels are falling.

Maybe reported crime is falling - people don't bother to report much nowadays as they believe nothing will happen.

Not necissarily the police's fault, they are tied by red tape, human rights and a compensation culture society and the system makes them inefficient and ineffective.

I live in a rural village, in a county with one of the lowest recorded crime levels, and about 7 miles from the nearest town with a police station. We never see the police here - occasionally see them on the rural A-roads in their cars, but never the villages - unless something has happened. The last burglary, they actually stopped my neighbour and asked for directions.....

Without reading the "Daily Mail" I can assure you actual crime has gone up here. We were first to be burgled about 12 years ago, and even though our property was eventually recovered, the CPS refused to prosecute the offender as the police had botched the evidence.

Over the last 2 years there have been 3 burglaries in the village (hence the police stopping and asking for directions) and a significant increase in so called "petty" crime - another example of manipulation of statistics - things like vandalism, theft of property/bikes from garden sheds, theft of building materials from houses under construction - so we were allocated our own PC.... based in a town 16 miles away, but there is a phone number with an answerphone..... What a joke.

And his advice.... "secure it all otherwise you are asking for it to be stolen..."

In my opinion, nearly 30 years of Thatcherite government, whether Tory or New Labour, has left the UK in a poor state from a social perspective.

Thatchers objectives has been met but has taken us to a situation that only suits a minority of people. Fine if you are in that minority, but many of us feel left out and excluded. Hence the birth of the "Grumpy old man/woman" syndrome.

Britains are now very competitive. We all strive to be best, earn the most and display our achievements. The most competitive of us will do anything to get one over our piers. So you have high achievers that dont give a sh1t about anyone else and dont care what their kids get up to.

At the other end of the scale, you get the low achievers that feel that they can never win, feel powerless and only get a sense of well-being when they get one over on someone else. They may even encourage their kids to misbehave.

Unfortunately, those left in the middle are becoming less and less as society crumbles.

Yet, just across the channel, things are very different. Not perfect and not without its problems but generally they are less competitive and have better social attitudes.

I must add that I do not read any newspapers.

ooooooo eeerrrrrrrr, got carried away.

Neither do I, infact you'd be surprised about how many people don't. That tells an interesting story. I threw the TV in the bin aswell, haven't watched a single show in 14 years.

And why not.... Promotes healthy debate !!!

And after various goings-on over the last few weeks where I live, I'm happy to engage in that debate.

I live in a small village of about 110 houses. I know all the kids by name and most of the parents.

If there is the slightest sign of trouble it gets dealt with very quickly by informing the parents. Sometimes you get a mouthy response, plus I usually let the wife deal with it, but it will usually bring the troubles to an end.

It's a little more difficult if kids come into the village from elesewhere.

The problem is, these days, nobody knows anyone except their immediate neighbours, particularly on modern housing estates. You dont get the same community spirit that generates the feeling of belonging and the respect for others that goes with it.
