Hi,
I've done it for 2 years on my 1380. I wouldn't recommend it unless you've got a exceptionally good rad, it does run a bit warmer than is ideal.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
You can't have too much cooling, a hot day and a traffic jam will soon see you boiling otherwise!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

3 words andy, In the boot?

Am sure with your tallents you could have it sat in the boot floor with some cooling ducts to it.

how you going to get air to it Rick, a rad is just a fancy piece of metal without air passing through it.

i had thought about this before as it goes, just thought it looked a lot of work!

i was thinking i could have ducts from rear windows into the boot, and then suck through fans on the rear of the radiator.

i will have to look again i think!

get an ally rad on the side with a decent leccy fan on it. then put an external rad (heater matrix/bike rad) under the boot.

you might want to move it up as high as possible and duct it well but.

im pretty sure that is similar to the 300bhp monsters setup. only thing then is traffic jams...

Hi,
I've got a similar plan for a heat dissipating device under the boot floor.
I'm mounting a Spal fan on top of it to blow down through the core.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Scientific testing has shown that little to bugger all air actually goes through the aforementioned ducts.

If you are going to mount something under the floor, duct the air from under the car up through the "cooler" - then vent it either back under the floor or out of the boot lid. Trying to force air back into the airstream under the floor is a no-no

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

Mine has a side mount rad with no mech fan, just a leccy one. Never over heated.

TBH I don't know what rad it is though...

looking closer at the twinni's the arent quite the same as the ones i have seen.

ive seen this golf at a few of the shows i have been to it has a rear mount rad.

its got section cut from the rear of the car to allow air through, a large custom rad with twin fans and a vent in the side window with ducts.

The only problem with electric fans is that they are designed to only be on for short peroids of time so running one continously on long journeys could cause them to fail? *oh well*

Personally I would try and get the cooling system to cool itself with airflow and just rely on the fan for when sat in traffic etc..

how many times is this topic going to come up? many people (inc keith calver) say you cant have a side rad and no mechanical fan but with an electric fan as it will run too hot.

but there wrong. if you seal the side mount rad to the inner wing properly you can use an electric fan with no problems. its all down to stopping recirculation of air. i've done it and i think it was turbo harry? also did it and i assume a few others
