My freshly rebuilt engine appears to be burning oil, the exhaust has white smoke coming out of it as it warms up. We noticed black oil leaking from around base of the head, Where as the sump oil is still clean.
So we removed the head expecting to find some kind of head gasket failure but the gasket is in perfect condition. The Exhaust ports on the head are black with oil and there might even be abit of oil in the inlets. Both the engine and head have been skimmed and fully re-built. All cylinders seem the same.

Anyone got any ideas?
Here are a couple of photos.

it will burn some oil till the rings have bedded in so put the head back on and torque it down then go out in it and give it a little throttle and then a bit more, put the engine under some load and after a couple of hundred miles 500 it will be all bedded in

Hi,
If it's white then it's not oil. I'd say over fuelling could be a possibility...
Cheers,
Gavin :)
