Hi,
I'd say the wrong way.
For a start off the Escort used mechanical fuel injection which was electronically "assisted" there was also a separate ignition ECU.
It's all way too complicated and you would have to get a custom chip programmed to be in with the slightest chance.
You need a fully programmable ECU.
I'd personally say go for the VEMs ECU. You don't need a separate wideband unit it's built in. *wink*
Other choices would be Mega Squirt, Omex, Canems, Emerald, Motec and so on...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
Which Escort turbo was that? The only electronic setup I know of from that era was the Fiesta, unless you're talking Escort Cosworth?
However the problem of getting a custom chip would still be your stumbling block :(
Cheers,

I'd go for a fully programmable ECU far easier to start from scratch and you get all the benefits of the extras like, knock detection, boost controllers, launch control etc...

Im using the VEMS ecu also, and im really happy with it. *wink*

having wired up an ecu, if I was going to buld another injected car i would just buy an ecu and loom from Specialist components.

I work with electronics and am no stranger to wires, but wiring 50 odd wires to and from an ecu and in my case front lights and fusebox is a struggle, remember you need to take special care where sensors earth and what currents are flowing,

if you are thinking of building a 7 port check out my build link below, Honestly it will be easier to build a K16v headed car as you have to do far less fabricating, and realisticly it will be more powerful.

If you turbo a K head, there is still alot of fabricating to do as all the parts like plenums, manifolds aren't available off the shelf yet. The new ecu by SC does look good though!
