I have had my N/a 1380 setup at Aldon, I am running vp3c cam, 45 webber 37X31 head. According to the cam spec it is supposed to come in at 2k and finish around 7k as you can see from the graph i have a big dip before it begins to pick up around 2.6-2.7 then begins to finish around 5500 so loads left to go. The mixture appears to be right according to the plugs. It does seem to pop around before 3k i think it maybe the mixture at bottom end. I have had this today done which shows the cam coming in around 3k. I have checked the cam timing which is set at 103degrees. Any thoughts would be greatly appreaicated. thanks guys

This is todays rr

no idea on the cause dude but ant's was pretty much the same dropping off early at the top end running a similar engine to yours.

the chap from aldon told him to get some 1.5 rockers to gain some more at the top.

looks quite down from what I would expect torque is unstable would sugest fuel suply problams what was the max advance and when you say the "The mixture appears to be right according to the plugs" did Aldon or the other rolling road people no have gas anlizers.

ie what was the co and co2 readings like ??

regards
Paul.

Hi,
I don't think the guy used a gas analyser when he setup mine! *surprised*
We just changed the main jets and the map till the numbers looked right! lol
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
Good guess work it would appear! *surprised*
I must be honest and say we didn't spend too much time on setup as the carb leaks fuel into the engine, so it's scrap anyway :(

Gavin :)

Never heard anything like that before in my life! These days I would expect any rolling road to have a wideband kit, or otherwise at the very least an exhaust gas analyser.

Hi,
He'd got the gear, couldn't use the lambda probe due to my lead additive.

they have got a wideband over at aldon, i went down with anton when he had his done last. the chap was great and really new his stuff, he was happy having a play with the megajolt adjusting the advance 2 degrees at a time to bring up the torque.

Is 103 the correct cam timing for that cam?

if its all adjusted correctly , id look at cam design and head flow .oh and silencer ,oh and valve springs , oh and ignition energy ,,,um ,

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

VP3C Crane/APT 276/288 8.01 8.41 0.315 0.331 2000-7200 105.5 71
spec sheet i saw shows cam lobe centre seperation at 105.5 , so retarded 2.5 degrees from where you have it ,

this MAY be why it drops off, as advancing a cam has the effect of building bottom end power at the expense of top end .

you could try it straight up ,at 105 ,5 or even a bit retarded ,say 107 ,that would bring in the top a bit ..

looks more like poor head flow or springs though .

I would say its the head flow and/or comp ratio - this cam should be sitting on a ratio of at least 11.25:1 - up to 11.8:1 safely on mapped ignition/ pump juice and it should produce the beans up to 7500ish like mentioned

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I could pontificate here all day but with out actually standing in front of the engine in the dyno cell I can't tell you whats rong most likle is that you cylinder head is a probly It could be anything from badly seated valves to port ground to the rong shape a blockage in the carb or Ignition problams power curves and graphs only tell you what happened not enuf infromation to tell why,
best regards,
Paul.

In the first intance i am going to change the inlet and exhaust mainfold, do you think this may help (cheaper options first) then take it back to aldon to sort the fueling out, if no joy then take the head off. I also think one of my piston rings is on its way which i am sure does not help.
