No hard/fast answer here. You can't say 15K miles, you can't say 8K. Turbo engine torque is way outside of where the original gears were designed, so qualifying 'life' is not easy as the duty cycle is scewed dis-proportionally.

Another example: I changed my Tran-x laygear after 3000 miles as I considered it worn. Others would have run it happily or sold it on ebay as 'perfect'.

Hi,
Millers CVT? is designed for g/box in sump setups, so should be the best, it's not cheap though *surprised*

i had my JK box rebuilt after about 10,000 miles, i had a piston problem so the box was off, noticed some wear so it had a partial rebuild. i always use good quality 20/50 and change it every 2,000 miles.

with a mini box, driving it till it blows is expensive! i work on checking the box at 10 to 15 thou miles and expect it to need some work

It depends entirely how they are used.

I probably ran my Tran-X set daily driver for about 50k. I had to replace 2nd gear once as I broke some teeth off. But the others were fine.
I think I also replaced 1st and reverse once after my original 4 pin diff broke and sent the pin through them.

Dont forget, if you drive a lot of miles in 4th.....no, or virtually no gear wear should occur on 1-3

If its a rally car or similar...then I'd expect the gears to wear a lot faster given the usage.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

My challenge box wore first seriously. I'd say that the ones I've seen in bits have the first gear on the laygear worn. I think they really start going once you get through the case hardening.

Looking at the rest, I think that if you use a good oil and avoid being too silly in first, it'll last fine.

I wonder what steel they are made out of.........

Bugger off, I'm getting there.
