Just noticed in a few pictures that i've seen the don on a008 and what seem to be a D.O.T radial drag tire? Is that the case or are they some sort of other tire, just wondering so i can see if i can squeeze a little more out the mini next year? do you know where to get them from or what make they are? and size?

they are indeed DOT drag radials , i beleive these are the smallest rolling radius 13" tyres available as a drag radial,as you probably noticed they are still very tall, with a circumference of 72 ish inches, so makes for some big gearing .

the problem is getting a wrinkle wall tyre in a light enough carcae so it works on a mini, the tyres on the Don, have no chance of wrinkling, and after experimenting i found that the optimum preasure to run is 10 lbs , at this the tyre has most contact with the road across its width.

basically, they don't do them in a 10" and they make the don (along with a lot of other things) go very fast Cool!!!

Avon do a DOT slick in 10" they are 165/70/10's not sure if they are drag tyres though :)

road legal is questionable? Isn't the MOT something like 65% tread depth over the middle of the wheel? They are a DOT tyre, but i'm not sure how many mot bays would pass them. You know what the old mot bays are like, normally grumpy old men who like to say that whole in your floor is within 4" of a suspension mount....bla bla bla....arghh.....But i wonder what compound the avons are? if there soft enough they could be used for drag racing? any more info?

HOld on folks, it cost me £300 to find out if these tyres were any good, so if anyone would like to spend said monies on a pair they will find out,lol.

My slicks were alot of money but they have been worth every penny! As im sure carl is of the same opinion!

Cheap slicks in 13s are prob best to try and find either a Formula BMW or Formula Renault team. They all use these and will normally let them go for reasonable money. Not for the street legal class though. I have a source for p34 tyrell front wheels (the 6 wheeler f1 car) and they are 10 inch but are also 10 inch wide which is prob a tad wide?!!

2.28 and 2.13 seem to be the fastest

thats nic 550kg lsd and 32's i think ,
and tom,440 kg lsd ,emerald traction control ? and steam roller tyres .

but after the 60 ft ,this all still makes a big diff , if i can spin up to 70 odd with my poxy psi ,then i should think nic and tom would spin a lot higher without the grip ,so the 60 ft is only the start of the advantage given by some sticky rubber..

robert, try comparing the magnitude of the average rate of acceleration for varous cars between the start and the 1/8th and between teh 1/8th and the 1/4

the latter is a decent indication of the cars power to weight ratio, the former is a good indicatio of the cars setup (and driver)assumign the latter between the two cars is the same im not posting my figures as it shows how shockingly bad everything about my car (including me) is except the engine still, very interesting tho!

im suprised nics 60ft is as close with much more weight , but the lower the 60 ft gets ,the harder to lower it still ,i think toms wider taller bigger contact patch super sticky tyres probably pay off all the way up the track ,

i wonder how well the softest of these would work , they are a bit tall though .

the tyres on Don, are in need of a long burnout to acheive max traction, somerging that is very difficult to acheive with no weight over the rear wheels to hold it back on the handbrake, subsequently really good 60ft times [ sub 2 secs] is all but a dream, that couples with the 100 hp in 1000 revs really does make it difficult to stop wheelspin,

but Tom did mention that he thought the tyres were now scrubbing in nicely and appeared to be getting better , i accept his oppinion on this , but i truley dont think the tyres are as good as i thought they would be , probably mainly to do with the load rating of the carcas preventing any wrinkle at launch.

They certainly are not super sticky as Robert suggested. not even after Toms best efforts to warm them up,

now if only we could hitch the rear up to a truck for the burnout,lol.
