ok here the story, restored a 1275gt, stuck a turbo in it and now it wont start run.

it might run for 2/5 seconds then dies.

runs quite lumpy when it does.

i got a recon carb from jordiene, so i say that was fine. timing is near enough right, as i assume it wouldn't run if it wasnt right

so i assume its ignition. so it has new coil, ht, plugs and contact/condenser, although i have just re-ordered this again to make sure that its not an intermitent fault with either of these.
i have a spark but have a nagging doubt that it does look strong enough; hence why i have reordered the bits, that and they have been in the garage for quite some time.

so what do you lot think?

give it a good hitting with the sledge hammer?

its been doing my head in for ages now, but have always found other things to do, but apart for the indicator and fitting seatbelts it just needs to be start before i can mot and then drive it.

so any help would be great

Hi,
Lets start with the basics...
Has any work been done to the engine, do you know it's a good runner?
Fuel pressure?
Firing order correct?
Gasket between the plenum and carb has the correct number of holes in it?
What colour is the spark at the plugs, have you got a good battery on it?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

engine stardard turbo, was running before i added a recon turbo head.
firing order correct, the carb came with the plenum fitted so i assume its right (jordie had no problems with it as far as i am aware)
blue spark and the battery a optima, so should be good enough, oh and its charged.
as for the fuel, thats more a guess, yet it comes out fast of the regulator, oh and its a mpi tank if that makes any differences

Hi,
Hmm, sounds about right.
Ok, what do the plugs look like, wet or dry?
Tappets set correctly?
How have you set the timing?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

plugs i'll have to go and check, but black from memory, going to check the clearance on the tappets again, and the timing set up as by the haynes, but then i would assume that it wont start as it is if this was out.

you say it runs for 2 to 5 seconds but is lumpy. have you tried pulling out the choke? if so, does it stall straight away? could be too rich

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

set the fuel pressure too, if you have no guage, atleast run the pump with the engine off, lift the dash pot and see if fuel is coming out the jet. if it is then its likely that its passing the float fuel valve and flooding it.
