hey, this might be a completly ridduclas question, but basically ive got an old intercooler laying a round and i was wondering if i was to remove one of the end tanks, what is stopping me from reducing the size of the core and rewelding the end tank back on is this something that is possible ?

You can cut an intercooler ALONG the core, but not across it.

Makes sense once the end tank is cut off tbh, but you'll need to cut off both end tanks, shorten it, modify the end tanks, then weld them back on.

No.

As Tom said, you can cut along the direction of flow not across it.

If you cut across the direction of flow, you then have a mammoth task of welding all the flow tube into the end plate.

It will make it smaller. Was this not the point of this thread to start with?

Depends if you have a long thin intercooler or a short fat one. Also whether you are shortening it or reducing the height. They come in many different shapes and sizes.

Paul has it spot on here. Trying to weld the flow tubes into the end plate is just not possible, or at least I wouldn't think it was possible anyhow.

Thats bollock without referencing the air flow.

The original question was -

so i can cut it from top to bottom as in the direction of the fins ?

The correct answer is "no".

If the original question was "can I cut it from top to bottom in the direction of the tubes" then the correct answer would have been "yes".
