Does anybody use a EGT gauge i have just picked one up with on a ebay shopping spree! Its a HKS gauge with a single thermocouple and i am just wondering where the best position in the manifold is for it as i know it should go as close to the head as possible. I am thinking just in the turbo as this is where all three exhaust ports meet. tell me if i have waisted my money LOL

its an extremely useful piece of kit when the egt's too high ...engine kaput...

imo it should be in the manifold where all the pipes meet unless your going to fit a wideband aswell and play about profiling your needle its just and expensive toy, it can be usefull for spotting problems long before the show in another form (ie melted pistons *wink*)

Brett already using a wideband and have been profiling needles for a while!
Only thinking was that if you were to put the sender in the middle of manifold then it would only read temperature from the middle exhaust runner!

Hi,
Turbo engine, in the exhaust manifold just before the turbo. I've ordered my sensor, just waiting for them to make it and post it!
The free mug arrived today though!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

yeah i supore our 5porters are a little odd in an i deal world the temp senror should be as clore tn the exhaust port as posible but the mini like u say doesnt give the same temp out each port near where all the ports meet or right at the turbo are better four our application. I dont know what temps are safe on a mini but on a supra a full boost pull temps should stay bellow 850 deg c i think it is if it goes over this the turbos are being pushed to hard and its time for a bigger set of turboes

Wbo2 and an egt used corectly to set up an engines fueling and the usuall for the timing is about as good as you can get:) imo obviously experience helps *wink*

Before the turbo its called a TGT probe (turbine gas temperature) after the turbo is EGT probe (exhaust gas temperature). Handy to know the charge inlet temp as well for obvious reasons and the altitude your running at.
