an 8v and 16v twinky cylinder head............ apart from double the valves!
Is there a huge advantage in fitting a 16v over an 8v or is it a bit like when the first Mk2 Golf 16V came out, people went for the badge first?
I'm sure I will be put right, just that I'm at that stage and pondering the + and - of each one.

Any pointers?

Basically the 16v head will flow a little better and I believe the torque comes in a little higher up in the revs. The 8V heads can be made to fit a small bore block but the 16V im not soo sure? *oh well*

With regards to block mods and fitting kits they are identical.

As it was explained to me and from my own observations the K head conversions give you a more driveable engine along with the horse power gain. and as said above the 8v delivers better torque low down in the rev range.

If you want monster power at a fraction of the cost stick with the cast iron 5 port head but the price you pay is clutch slip and revy take off's every time for even the gentlest starts.

Hi
No expert myself but the 16V will rev higher due to the smaller valves being easier for the springs to control.
Other than that I don't think there's much in it?
Cheers

The basic difference is that the 16v will flow more than the 8v thereby there is slight gain in volumetric efficiency, particularly at high revs.

I have a theory that the 8v would be better under very high boost because the 16v exhaust valves are too close together.

Vizard got a patent on his PolyQuad idea. He uses one big, one small valve on the intakes, and ditto exhaust. So his 4V/cyl gets tumble and swirl, works like a 2V at low rpm. I like the idea and want to try it on a K head.

I can't see that being a problem as the bike tuning companies run silly boost on the 16v's! *surprised*

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

If the 16v has an achillies heel then my guess is that it will be exhaust valve seats.

I dont know at what boost that may ocurr, maybe far more than we want to use, who knows.

Thanks for all your advice :)

I've gone for a 8V which has been stripped and will be dropped off for blasting at some point this week.

The gearbox got the same treatment and has turned out fantastic.

If I could post or knew how to post pictures you'd be able to see for yourself*oh well*

Just right click on the photo, click properties then highlight the URL address. Add [i.m.g] before then [/i.m.g] after. But miss out the full stops in between the letters. *wink*

The laziest modern bike engine I have rode was on the Triumph ST 1050 I think that reved out at about 9000rpm now if your engine is reving that high your doing well and as most bike engines hit 16000rpm I do not think resticted flow at high rpm is an issue we with our humble A-series motors have to worry ourselvs with.
