well me and a mate have brought a couple of pitbikes and sadly they are abit too big and awkward to get even one into the back of the astra van!! so in the corner of the workshop rotting away was this.

i had already messed around with it a little bit but not much, imagine it with flakey yellow paint over the metal and looking sorry for itself.

i did just quickly knock up some ugly mounts for the front and rear wheels and a new tail gate for it that doubles up as the ramp when its down and also locks the rear wheels inplace when its up.

but then i looked at it and thought uhmmm no! i know i can make it look better than this because that is shit!!!! so i set about pretty much redoing it! first was lop off the front mounts and put in new ones, simpler and look better, with these in ment that i could cut out the cross member and have it so as that the wheel will sit in them better.

then it was time to rip all of the wood out to leave me with just the frame, gring all of the metal down that would be visable when finished, and thenspray it up so as that it looks alot nicer.

then it was time to crack on with the tail gate so i chopped off the ugly rubbish i had done before and stuck on the "nicer" wheel mounts/slots.

done and painted

then it was time to finish it all off with abit of chequer plate. crazy amounts of pop rivets and a very sore wrist (from the gun you dirty beggers!) later:

also gave me a good reason to stretch the legs of this little beast

used my bosses mig 160 from snap-on (its old and not very well looked after) for the first lot of ugly design and then my portamig 185 for the revised stuff. the 160 was very inconsistant and gave some fooooooking terrible welds as if the gas was not on but it was and the shroud was clean, wierd! but the portamig, amazing! made me look quite professional and i am far from it!!!

anyway all in all about 10 hours work for alot of easy fun on this little begger!

its alot of fun and i have a spare head for one and am full of stupid ideas so that head will be getting opened out and i will be working out compression ratios and mounting a turbo at some point in the future. i just need to find one small enough. i know that the astra van ones a tiny so i will be starting there for my research, but i will start another project thread for that when the time comes!! haha

just need to put a tow bar on the van next week and can test the thign out! woop woop!

ride them up the top of our town, there quite alot of forest/quarry up there so its a great place to thrash around on them!

na there not the road legal ones but it wouldnt take much to get them through a daytime MOT, its something ive been thinking about because it does a good 50 mph (tested on my own private road of course) but for now the trailer is prefect for what we need!

thats the works workshop, wish i could get the mini down there but there really isnt enough space. we are moving soon though so i feel some begging is on the cards and possibly rent some space because with ramps and the whole use of toolage life would be sooooo much easier!!
