I took some old scrap bits in the other day; old castings, bits of lawnmowers, the usual mixed ferrous crap. I got a whopping $25/ton... which is somet like 16 quid per ton. Considering where it was just 2 months ago, and where it was even 9 months ago, this is barely worth the fuel cost....

The price here is not that good - dropped from around £200/tonne a couple of months back to around £40/tonne now.

Yep, the bottom has fallen out of the scrap metal market. There is a very well known scrap merchant in Widnes, now not accepting any metal in return for payment, they just tell you to 'leave it over there'

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

New steel prices have dropped £100-150 a ton also. Stainless has dropped to a similiar price as alluminium too. On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

The price of scrap is a mafia operation and is set by Corus in South Wales - They have no control over the selling price but they can control there buying price to maximise profits.

Hahaha! lmao.. Aparently loads of ships are moored off chinas seas when the scrap price dropped loads inbetween them setting off and arriving. Also on the news there is 2million tons of light iron scrap at liverpool docks because nobody wants it?? |
