I took some old scrap bits in the other day; old castings, bits of lawnmowers, the usual mixed ferrous crap. I got a whopping $25/ton... which is somet like 16 quid per ton. Considering where it was just 2 months ago, and where it was even 9 months ago, this is barely worth the fuel cost....

So hopefully our A-series collections are safe now ( *angry* ), but our wallets and the lead off the church roof will be at risk again.

Prices at fun-fairs and the cost of pegs will probably go up as well... *laughing*

The price here is not that good - dropped from around £200/tonne a couple of months back to around £40/tonne now.
Oddly, given the pressures we are under to recycle everything, the price has completely dropped out of the recycling market. Cardboard, plastic, aluminium and steel cans etc are all but worthless - even the chinese have stopped buying.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

BT replaced a load of telephone wire near me recently,

the pikeys waited for them to almost finish the job then nicked all the stuff they had removed... AND the stuff they had just put up the poles.... about 3/4 of a mile of it apparently.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

I was caught out by this too

I took in 200kg of scrap to get a MASSIVE £4

They guy said, you should have bought this in 5 weeks ago it was at £150 a ton

The amount it cost me in petrol to pick up the trailer, take it there and take the trailer back I would have been better off if id have cut it up and put it in black sacks

Yep, the bottom has fallen out of the scrap metal market. There is a very well known scrap merchant in Widnes, now not accepting any metal in return for payment, they just tell you to 'leave it over there'

We have been clearing out the wearhouse. We only got £300 scrap value for a 28 tonne machine that probibly cost £350,000 new. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, it just had to go. There is probibly 2 tonne of copper and half a tonne of ally in there in the tubes, compressor and motor. £300, fuck all!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

New steel prices have dropped £100-150 a ton also. Stainless has dropped to a similiar price as alluminium too.

The price of scrap is a mafia operation and is set by Corus in South Wales - They have no control over the selling price but they can control there buying price to maximise profits.

Yep the chinese have stopped buying at the rates they used to, but the biggest one to watch is the turks. They basically make the worlds supply of re-bar for the building industry and have been buying at a phenominal rate for a while now.

The price peaked at £370/t several months ago, and is now sat at around £290/300 per ton, with another predicted drop tba, but the rumour mill is saying the buying price of scrap could fall to £150/t

Working in a ferrous foundry its been a pain for a while, but we are heading for the scrappy's saying ''dump it over there m8'' and getting nothing for it, i would suggest if you can hang on to it!

But yeah the pikey's will be after the usual stuff again, rather than your metal.

Aparently loads of ships are moored off chinas seas when the scrap price dropped loads inbetween them setting off and arriving. Also on the news there is 2million tons of light iron scrap at liverpool docks because nobody wants it??
