Is headlamp flash required for MOT? On our 1998 mini the main beam works but the flash has packed up, and I'm wondering whether I should be arsed to find out what's wrong with it :)

Thanks

Check the fuses, the flash I think could be a seperate feed to the stalk than the normal main beam.

I had checked the fuses, although I'm not sure sure which (if any) affect the headlamp flash

A1, B1 or C1.

I bet B3 has no fuse in it!

I don't know how the 'new' stalks work. But the 'old' ones make the full beam then break the main beam when you push it forwards. And make the full beam but DON'T break the main beam when you flash.

The full beam is fed from the same place it's just a clever little contact arrangement.

I would suspect the stalks TBH.

The headlamp levelling (B3) has got a fuse in it and does work *tongue*

For main bean I have to pull the stalk up and the flash is a 'half' pull so-to-speak. It's a bit crap as you can flash someone with your lights off, but accidentally turn your main beams on and blind oncoming traffic next time you turn your lights on.

I think it is the stalk, but it looks a pain to dismantle so I might not bother

It's got headlamp leavelling! WOW!

If that's the way the stalks work, then I'd deffo say stalks.

And if that's the way they work, it'll pass an MOT, cos they'll just pull it fully with their hairy monkey arms.

autodata doesnt even have the fuse box diagram for the later minis. that put that idea to rest.
