thanks for that. I'll have a look an see what i can find. I had a look for a while but theres so much stuff on here it can get tricky to find what your after. I'm not moanin though - ace to have all this knowledge (?!) in one place. In reply, your right, block was skimmed, head looks like it was an i'm guessin it must have been since its a recon - i told em to take the smallest amount off possible to make it flat.... +30pistons are standard metro turbo type, whatever cc that works out to. I've not got a burette yet so i've not cc'd em, cant see any markins on em either apart from the size. |

already answered but your boost allowance is directly controlled by the CR and fuel quality along with type of cooler. mine has been built for up to 20 psi boost running stock turbo pistons standard stroke crank the head has had 28cc chambers cut and i am running a large 2wd cossworth cooler

yeah that could be troublsesome well time consuming as unless you were told what the crank was machined to you will struggle. put a bit oil on the back of the thrusts pop em in and sit the crank in then check the end float with a dti gauge. i could lend you one but would have to kill you if you broke it or failed to return it

My turbo gearbox seems in good nick an (not treid it on road but theres no worn teeth or dodgy bearings, an I was hopiin to leave well alone. cheapest i found them s/c drops was 200 ish, I would srongly advise you look very closely at the main pin in the diff - most people on here would say upgrade to the x-pin diff anyway if you can afford to - but if you don't upgrade, the pin is a well known wear point. I've had one break on a standard MG Metro (wrote of the gearbox casing) and on a spare low mileage A+ box I stripped a couple of months ago, it was worn 1/3 of the way through. The A+ pins seem to be made of cheese. I would definately look at the diff before worrrying about drop gears. Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

...p.s never buy an engine as a box of bits, the monkey that took it to pieces has omitted to put back in the box all the subtle bits like BOLTS AND NUTS. |

yeah its bad news, even if you get one built, unless you know its been done properly i strip em down every time. you will get there fella, just post up in the wanted section any bits you may need between everyone here me included (if anything is left after the car is gone)

thanks for that mate, so far ive been waging the biddin war on ebay an as i say im damn near skint... reckon ive spent 1000+ already... on engine, turbo, new parts, machinin, flip front, 7.5 inch discs etc etc.... the only item i havent got is a rocker set up. As i said i got an old 1.3 allegro aseries which i nicked flywheel, clutch, timing backplate and cover, pushrods off. Would its rockers/pedastle and shaft be ok or has the turbo engine supposed to be differnt? thnks for all your help |

problem you will have is if i have read correct you have skimmed the block this mill make the pushrods over extend the rockers and snap em unless you shim them up under the pedastle. i have seen this many times. only way to check is after the build when you do the clearences make sure the pushrods are not bowing another tell tale sign is the valve spring will bind up under load (ie being pushed way too far)

in reply, no, I'm only 20 - had the mini a just3 years. bought it for 50quid as a floorless, doorbottemless, bootfloorless, holy subframed, drivers door hanging off pile of poo. I practised my mig welding and put in new bootfloor, rear valance, subframe, 4 floor panels, drivers rear wing, 2 doorskins/bottoms, drivers a post and apanel an a few other minor repairs. Then i slung the MG metro engine it came with back in after the respray. It was quick, but not quick enough... hence the turbo project. cut the perfectly good restored front end of to fit fiberglass removable one and after 35hours making it fit well wished i'd never bothered... Ian, would you mind if i came and had a look at your mini, for some ideas on where stuff goes. I'm in horncastle. Is there any other turboers in the area? |

How many hours are you from Pontefract that is the question you need to ask yourself.....all turbo'ers at some stage will make a pilgrimage to the BENROSS temple for work to be carried out

haha, i go up there quite often for work. took min up there with its 1275 mg metro in too. i'm not sure i'd want to take my stripped out turbod version of the car that far... Found out what was up with the thrusts... The turd who built the engine last time had negleted to fit thrust washers im guessing. This has led to the crank "machining"! itself into the thrust washer groov. thankfully the crank doesnt have a mark on it due to it been nitrided/tuftrided. no 1 main bearing cap seems to have taken most of the beating... So i filed no 1 caps burred lip off. put shells in, and then tried a +0.015 thrust in one side (worn side) and standard in the other. An guess what... By some AMAZING fluke, with this combination i get 0.0015 endfloat, which is about right by the book. Think this will work ok, seems nice to me? (would get some material put back on block an remachine but i cant afford it...) |

). Ive got brakes an everything in boxes ready to fit. At the moment im bulding the engine, got the block back last week from the machinists - I took it in to remove some pitting as I bought the engine stripped down and it had been stored damp, but when it came back he told me it had been warped, thank goodness i didnt just slap the new head on.
