Playing insurance companies against each other

Got my insurance renewal which has come in at £290, got another quote for comparison that has come in at £314, but this other company they say they will price match the renewal and take off an additional 5%. Now I know my original insurance company will also price match. Aside from the fact I could do without the hassle and phone calls, I guess I should try playing them off against each other.

How far has anybody managed to do this and how much did you save?

done it a few times, however alot of companies are linked and dont like being played off against them selves best 2 to rub up are adrian flux and hic (mini mag insurance)

hic would not quote me on my mini untill my insurance with adrian flux was cancelled(the supra's insurance), hic was £200 cheaper but my quote was invalid when i told them my current insurer was adrian flux even though it was a different car lol

make sure its like for like aswell, hic will include racetrack cover and agreed valuation and the like where as say elephant do not

i managed to save over 7k on my supra insurance however i had a couple of 10k+ quotes and haggled adrian flux down from 5k to 2.5k :) alot i know but i was 20 and chasing the dream

I renewed my insurance with the same company and saved £75! I got the renewal, went on money supermarket and renewed with the same company for £75 less! Bonus!

My Mini build diary

I renewed the insurance on the Volvo with HIC the other week, now I realise HIC specialise in modified cars and don't normally do boring stuff but it seems sensible to get all the cars insured with the same company, in I reverse one into the other or something equally stupid. Now HIC were originlly asking more than I wanted to pay for the Volvo, I guess it's because it's not the kind of car they normally insure, so I did a bit of searching on line and e-sure came up almost half the price. Phoned HIC, the lady on the phone was initially a bit surprised when i said what e-sure had quoted me, but she was very good about it, when onto their website & entered in my details to check what I was saying and tend agreed to price match it. I was rather pleased, I had genuinely expected her to say something along the line of "sorry, but we can't do it for that, you're best of going with e-sure".

im with hic on my mini and i cant get it any cheaper anywere else, so when my bmw insurance was up for renewal i thought id give them a ring. they were over double the price of what im paying now and they wouldnt budge on a price match!

I rang up hic the other day to try and sort out some insurance and they were trying to do me a good deal

I blame the 'credit crunch' for it all
