Three options I've thought of:

1. I have an alloy intercooler from a punto gt which I was planning to use on the car but its going to take some re-arranging to get it in. Probably re-locating the battery. If I do this the cooler will not really have any air passing through it. It only cost £1 so nothing to loss if I dont do this lol

2. relocate oil cooler and have a custom intercooler made to fill the space left by the side of the rad.

3. Have an intercooler made like below(Id want tabs welded on to fill the gaps in the corner which I can spray the same colour as my car). Will only need to move the rad slightly

What do you think. The custom intercooler would cost just shy of £400

if people with minis can fit intercoolers from all types of cars that do a good job surely you can get something thats perfetly capable and cheap and get it to fit without sending 400 quids cozzy intercooler springs to mind?

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I think option 3, but....

how about making the cooler deeper (top to bottom somthing like twice as deep) and trimming some from the bumper so you can use the air that goes through the bumper.

Maybe i should measure the size next to the rad without the oil cooler there and go to a breakers yard

I intend to fit a Renault 5 Turbo intercooler in mine. My plan is to move the oil cooler back (and possibly support it on the intercooler) and then install the intercooler there. It will require a bit of modification to the pipe that goes to the radiator bottom connection, but nothing too complex. The airbox will have to go as well. They might be other changes that need to be made to get a good fit, but they were the most obvious.

Edit: I am also fitting a small Jap alternator which will give a little bit more space to fit it all in.

Warwick.

id say option 3 if you can make the end tanks a lil neater, the tapered ends look a lil naff, if you can have them curved in or something...obviously down to inward cash flow :)

Hi,
I'd be trying to get something thin in front of the rad, covering it completely if possible.
A lot of the modern ICs are like this.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I'd move the number plate up a tad and fit it below the plate. Fit the standard grill back on for stealthness. Fitting it lower down (set back behind the line of the bumper) should cause shite loads of air to flow through it, especially if its below the rad so nothing restricting the flow coming out. *wink*

The lower down the better IMO, you get far less heat soak when sat in traffic etc..

Problem I have down there is its right against the valance, which has a crossmember behind and above has a bumper reinforcement so cant see how I could run the hoses. I dont want to cut up panels majorly either...

I think by using a slimer rad fan I can move the rad back enough to get an intercooler infront of the rad and still have it hiden behind the original grille.

This way it would take up about as much area as option 3 but look alot more subtle

EDIT: Thanks for the opinions. If i get rid of the bonnet and change it for an intercooler I think it would give me about 500bhp!! ha

Metro turbo, I had a look if my punto intercooler can go there but its just abit too big

Decided to go with keeping an intercooler behind the grille. Intercooler has arrived aswell as a slimline fan.

I've offered it up(wedged it in :)) and with a nippon alternator should work well might need to grind a few parts back aswell though.

Ive started to make a grille with the slats knocked out so you can see the intercooler and give it some more air but I still have the original MG one if I want to go subtle.
