my car has been sitting unused for just over a month, i started it up the other day, well it turned over, started, i gave it a bit of throttle, then it died?

tried to restart it and nothing?

all i get is a "clunk"?

i've taken the starter motor off and tested it, its fine.
i've tried 2 other good starter motors, still the same.

the battery is fine, has good charge.

it does the same with the clutch in or out, in gear or out of gear.

it seems that something is stopping the engine rotating, what could it be?
clutch fault, gearbox fault?

Pull the plugs out, make sure its in neutral & see if you can turn it over by hand?

First see if it really is the engine...

Plugs out, in 4th and try to pull the car forwards.

You should see it rotate from the fanbelt and here the hiss from the plug holes.

EDIT - Jason beat me, I must learn to type faster....

just been out and tried that, plugs out, in neutral and tried to turn it by hand via the crankshaft pulley and fan belt.
it will not budge?

tried the earth strap, used 2 jump leads from the engine to the bodywork.

If you cant turn it over with the plugs out,by pulling on the fanbelt or a socket on the end of the crank,it sounds as if it has seized. How much was "a bit of throttle" and had the oil pressure come up? Is there still oil in there ?.

noooo dont say that!
it was only a little blip of the throttle, oil level is fine, and i've never had any oil pressure problems.

Does it turn over by hand with the starter motor removed?
As tadge says, don't keep trying with starter until you've found the cause. :)

Doesn't sound good........:(

You will struggle to turn it over just with your bare hands, get a socket and bar on the crank pulley bolt, or put it in gear and rock the car.

ummm, this isn't sounding good, will try to move it in 4th tomorrow, but i dont think its going to move...sounding more and more like the engine is going to have to come out.

Ive had mine lock up on me before. I could hardly move the engine, i got a crack bar on the pulley and it freed up.
I think it was summat to with the starter as it made a horrible noise after turning over then jammed up.

Id remove your starter, take all your plugs out and try turning it over.

If your trying to turn the pulley with your hands dont even bother. get a socket on the pulley bolt itself.

Could it be the washers in the plug holes?

right it moves in 4th with the plugs out, well just about!

so i then tried a fully charged battery on it and jump leads from my other car and it was turning over, but very slowly, and this is with the plugs out.

its really starting to puzzle me now..

what size is the pulley bolt?
