after reading some recent posts about the T3 turbos they seem to be a thing of the past, i know a few people are using the gt17 turbo and posibly others.
is the gt17 any good? i have been reading some of the older threads and carl said its like a hair dryer. my plan was for the happy side of 150 banannas, i know i will need a manifold made for it, not worried about bulkhead mod's.

secondally, i have seen some companys are doing 5speed boxes, can they withstand the power of turbo motors, i have looked into the 6 speed as wel but they are bloody expencive. are they worth it or not at all?

paul , the gt17 is used on the saab 9.5 and gets changed on the upgrade kits at about 265 bhp ,so i think itll prob flow well over the requirement for a 5 port .
if you have a look at the gt17 thread ,you can see a combo map for it that fab put in its in 3 colours and shows an interpolation i think comes closest to the map for it ,its definately a high flowing (for its size)and i think high boost turbo ... its used as standard at 20 odd psi boost on some engines .

You can get over 150bhp with a standard t3.

i know you can get over 150 with a standard t3 but its abit old skool, i thought it might be quite cool to use a newer turbo on a 5port. :)
cheers robert ill have a look for that post again

I have a 5 speed in the daily 1380 and I must say its a dream It is a MS evo 5 speed set and as yet with 4800miles and 100+ hp no problems at all the yoke has eatn trusts savaged drop gears blown diff pins but the box has survived the lot I have the 3.44 diff in it which is great because you get all the advantages of 3.44 in 1,2,3 and 4th with all the advantages of 3.00 in 5ft I would say that it might struggle with the torque of a turbo though my motor is a 1380 na. on the hole my experience with this box has been very good.

thanks for that about the 5 speed, i was not so sure about it being able to hold up to the torque of the turbo motor, have you got any pics of the box? do they use the same 1,2,3,4 gears from a 4 speed, with a modded gearbox housing for the 5th?

Hi,
It says on MS's site that at least one of the 5speeds isn't suitable for turbos, may be worth asking if any of them are?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

not sure about the turbo site of things, i no nothing about the moden stuff, the grearbox side of things your on about a S/C type i guess, not sure what the S/C can take but i know it's a big NO, NO for a normal 5 speed box.

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph
