No mate, it has to be taxed. The only time you can get away without tax is if you are on the way to an mot.

Is your insurance a standard policy? If it is then it only covers you for driving other peoples cars. Once you have bought the car, then it's yours, so the insurance won't be valid. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Your choices are to A) tax it, B) get it fetched on a trailer/truck C) borrow some trade plates off someone D) drive it home without tax illegally

Maybe 10 years ago I'd have risked it, but with the new ANPR cameras and database, I'm not so sure. If it declared sorn, and you get spotted they will stop you straight away.

I wouldn't put another tax disc in the screen either. the likleyhood is that you will be picked up by an ANPR camera whcih uses the database anyway. If you get caught with another disc in the screen i'm sure its considered fraud - perhaps someone could confirm? |

check your insurance, i suspect that you are only insured on another car if it is insured by someone else.

baring in mind that he does not have insurance, that will mean you wont have insurance under your current policy. Therefore if you get pulled, they will take the car straight from you

Yep I think thats the plan now, I was just wondering if I could tax it with his part of the V5 in his name and the latest MOT cert, but using my insurance details (confirmed above), I guess its not a bad thing if someone else is taxing your car for you so I shouldnt see why the wouldnt let me! I was just trying to think the cheapest way to get it back, as i'm a bit tight for cash as my pay wasnt as much as I thought! I would have given it a miss if i hadn't already given him a deposit, but its too good a deal to pass on anyway! I'll be getting the insurance to cover me on the car for when I pick it up, so I can drive back and about in it with no worries. The tax is £100 for 6 months, if I get pulled and its an £80 I dont feel its worth it really, If im prepared to get fined (which I would be if I was prepared to drive it back untaxed) then I should be able to tax it in the first place so I'll do that!! you wont be insured on it unless you tell your insurance, as has already been said you are insured to drive other peoples cars that have been lent to you, have you checked your policy to confirm as my fully comp insurance wont allow me to drive other peoples cars due to my job(twats lol). if you ring your insurance and tell them youve bought a new car and selling you old they will insure both for a certain amount of time either for free or for a small amount to give you time to sell. if tax is 100 quid and a fine is 80 quid id buy the tax personally as you could end up paying 180?
no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

you can get a "laid up" policy for your mini whilst you are not using it from the likes of hic etc. it was about 60 quid for a year last time i got one. just a thought. no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
