Force Racing ICT Dept Manager Miglia Turbo Am frum Yokshyer tha noes!

Hi Chaps, ive just fitted an MJLJ V4 to my mates Turbo Mini. Its a bog standard metro turbo lump running 4psi.

It seems that the Car is running in limp mode. Ive checked the timing and its running at 10tdc or appears to be.

I can see the ignition moving around the map but no matter what i do to the map it wont change on the pulley with the timing light??
Any Ideas??

Ive swapped the edis for one that i know that works, ive also swapped the coil pack to no avail.

The strangest thing is the firing order on the coil pack is crazy
to get the car to tick over correctly ive set it to.

1--->3
2--->1
3--->4
4--->2

Crazy shit i know??

Im really stuck and feel a right nob end as ive been raving on about the mjlj for ages!

Ta

Sounds like the two wires that go from the EDIS to the coil are the wrong way round, or the missing tooth is 180 degrees out, remember with wasted spark 1&4 and 2&3 fire as pairs.

What version of the tuning software have you got? and what perspective are you using? I prefer configuration mode (F2)

V4.01 and im using config mode.

I make double sure the wires are correct tomoz.

Why would this cause the car to run in limpo mode??

On my mini i just put the number to the plug...simple.

Having those two wires crossed shouldn't cause it to run in limp home mode, I only suggested that as an explanation for the odd firing sequence.

As for which version of tuning software your using that shouldn't effect it either, I'm just scratching my head trying to come up with ideas.

Could the MJ be faulty and not talking to the edis? can you swap it with the one on your car to see if that makes a difference?

yeah, im gunna try my MJLJ on there tomorra. Anyone know if Triggerwheels.com have warranties??

Thing is im not so sure that the mj is faulty... as it works through the flaptop??

Wierd one this.

The car is excatly the same with or without the MJ connected to the molex? So its deffo in limp mode.

Is the SAW wire connected to the right place on the MJ unit and the EDIS unit? It sounds like the MJ unit knows what the engine is doing, but the correct advance figure isn't getting through to the EDIS.

I assume simple things like get ignition config & write ignition config work as they should?

Could be a bad solder joint on the board, it can happen.

as already stated, check all the wiring, check you have voltage at the pip and saw. manually check you have tbc then work back 10degress, which should be 10 teeth, then you would have 10 degress before tdc. *Clapping*

Hi,
I'd start with the MJ disconnected. Then get 1 on the coil pack going to plug no1.
If it doesn't run swap the 2 trigger wires on the coil pack.
It should now run on 4 cylinders smoothly, if not you have a problem.
If alls well check your getting 10BTDC with a timing light. Adjust trigger wheel if required.
Now connect MJ and check timing again, it should now read what you programmed into the table
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Stupid question but you have got a MAP loaded with values other than 10 degrees?

Right update with this one!

Coil Pack wires were backwards, the leads all go to

1--->1
2--->2
3--->3
4--->4

The MJ is also goosed. I changed it to mine and it started working. Also Vac Pipe was leaking causing dodgy readings.

Anyway know what the returns policy is on TriggerWheels??

Don't know but I'd image they'd be reasonable.

If it comes to the worst you've always got the sale of goods act on your side.

Best bet is to give them a polite call, they got a reputation to keep so I reckon they'll happily replace it.

if the item is faulty then they have to replace it. it is the law. but if you have had it for lets say three years you have no chance

I would give them a call aswell and keep a note who you spoke to, they may say they will need to bench test it themselves, you may want to be there when they do it

Does the plot point still move round the map but the ingition timing light show no change?

I had this problem with my MJL, took me ages and much head scratching to find, turned out that one resistor in the MJL was the incorrect value so everything worked but the output signal wasn't strong enough, so the EDIS ran on limp home 10 degrees advance.

There is information on the Mejajolt forums that give the voltages expected for the SAW (?) feed to the EDIS, give this a whirl.

Hope you get it sorted.
