Force Racing ICT Dept Manager Miglia Turbo Am frum Yokshyer tha noes!

Dudes, ive fitted a new BDD needle to my tangerine but its smokes like a bitch, ive leaned it off until bearly runs. Ive had the head off, all looks fine, head is sutty as feck.

Bores are lovely no damage at all, so is hg.

Could my Choke seals be causing this problem.

It doesnt smoke at idle but when you rev it a little and when its on boost it seems to clear??

Over rich and too much idling and messing about? Probably with a proper run and clear out will be OK?

Yeah, thats what i was thinking, I might rebuild the carb to be safe. At least i know the Bores ect are ok.

However i have done alot of pissing about setting it up.........................................and revving it up for my mates to show them how brill i am for building such a masterpiece!*tongue*

agree with carl, stop running it not under load- either get it on the road loaded up or run it on the rollers.

What do glazed bores look like? And what problems do they cause.

Hard to see, but basically stops the rings ever bedding in properly.

Cool. Is this easily removed with the head off and pistons in situe?? Perhaps putting the pistons to the bottom them stuffing rags down the bore then a quick hone with a drill hone??

nope it is pistons out job Mike if you put the pistons to the bottom of the bore how are you going to bust the glaze where the rings of the piston that you just put to BDC. A way I run engines in that are not in a car that is ready to travel is to jack the front and put it on some very firm axel stands. Put the engine into 4th gear and bring the revs up start applying the brake and slowly depress the throttle to keep the rpm around 2000rpm, when you are at about half throttle let your foot of the brake gently and give the brakes about 5 mins to cool and repeat the process it wont harm the brakes as long as you never keep them on for more than 10-15 seconds I normally do this for about 10 pulls and it just starts the bedding process also a good way of setting your fuelling under load, with out a set of rollers.
regards,
Paul.

Nah not really, its ok once it out on the road and under load. Paul i might give this process a whiril.

Ill take the wheels off too just icase the stand fail lol.

But would the choke seals cause over fuelling???

I would say you will be fine mike might nock a few miles off the overall life but cant see any major short time problams.

Wheels off very good idea.

As far as ckoke seals go I would recon this would cause it to lead rather than richen but I am far from an expert on SU, Most of the time the confuze me.

Putting it on the rollers can be a good running in process in its self. With mapping the low rev sites get done first and once you get to about 4000rpm it is fully run in and time to change to the decent engine oil

Hi,
Choke seals will cause massive over fuelling.
Was it ok before you changed the needle? What was the needle that came out?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

It smoked before the needle too. The one before was a BDK, which i thought was the cause of the issue. Evidently not.
So you think a rebuild of the carb will do??

My Valves are coated in a layer of black carbon!

stowmaket suffolk

get it on the rollers to get the needle customised, but make sure ign is spot on first as this will cause black plugs if you have a crap spark.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Mike, do you know the history of the carb? If not, may as well rebuild it. Only £50 and worth it for the peace of mind.
