i use 1000, then 1200, then frekla g3 followed with frekla 100?

use a polising mop for the cutting paste. be careful of the edges.

Virtually as above, 1000, followed by Farécla G3 then Farécla G10. (And be careful of the edges, of which there are lots on a Mini).

I don't see the point of the 1200, but I'm lazy....

I use the foam pads for the G3, G10 but make sure you get the right ones for 2K, they come in different grades for cutting, polishing, 2K and celly.

And what really p*****s me off, they have imperial threads to go on an air driven polisher, and metric threads for an electric one !!!!

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

yes a 1000 does seem to much, I used 1200 once and couldn't get a proper proper shine back, it was probably me to be honest!!!!!

1200 soap and water, rub soap on paper as you start to sand, use a block on flat surfaces. take your time to get a good finish takes time not five mins.
use water on a sponge mop dont use dry as it will get hot and burn.
if you have enough paint on the car then you will get a really good finish.
good luck

i've alway use 1200 then 1500, and alway do any edges by hand.
also its best to flat it when its still fresh, if you leave for more the 2 weeks it go's rock hard, then it is hard work.

1200 soap and water

The all important soapy water! I use washing up liquid to be honest, works a treat. When I painted my bootlid I used 1500, then finished with g3, G10 then some good polish and the result was great...

im finding that G3 is a bit harsh.. if the paints not bad im getting away with just G10 following a bit of a rub down with soapy water and 1500

how long did it take peeps with the cutting compound to get a good shine back?

seems to take for ever at say 1500 - 2000 rpm on the buffer. (even when using G3)

its a cutting compound by farecla, you use it following the wet sanding to get the shine back.

I wouldn't go no less than 1200, specially on new paint.

Lightweight racer coming soon.

so the higher the g number the finer the paste?

Can you get different grades of polishing sponge thingys?

No probs, yeah that’s right, and you do get different grades of sponge, for example specific ones for 2k paint, finishing etc
