hello all.
i have searched tm but cant seem to find the answer i am looking for, so if any of you guy could help i would be really gratefull.
i have just changed the gaskets on the inlet manifold as they were leeking, but now there is so much vacuum my d/v doesnt work, at idle if you take the hose to the d/v off and put your finger on it, there is so much vacuum i could hoover my interia with it? it is connected in the right place and i cant find any leeks, and shorly if it was leeking there would be less vacuum?? any ideas?

high vacuum at ldle is a good thing.

Im not sure what you are trying to say. But high vacuum and high boost on a closed throttle will open the dump valve

it is a diaphram d/v. i have had it apart and there doesnt seem to be any thing wrong with it. i took it for a drive this mnorning and it was working it first and second gear but not in third or forth? *Confused*

I don't understand. The vacuum is needed to open the DV. So at idle it should be open.

If you rev the engine it should start to close, but it won't close fully until there is some boost, and for this you wil need to be driving.

that is very strange that it would work in first and second but not the others

my dumpvalve does not operate when yo are stationary reving the engine but does when you drive

at idle it would be closedunless the plenum pressure exceded the spring pressure minus the vacuum. so if the spring pressure was equal to 100kpaG and the vacuum was 30kpaA the plenum pressure would have to excede 30kpaG to open the valve.

At full throttle full boost there is almost boost pressure in the manifold and on top of the diaphragm and boost pressure below the diaphragm, almost cancelling out leaving the spring pressure holding the valve closed.

Suddenly close the throttle from full boost full throttle, plenum pressure rises, manifold pressure falls into deep vacuum and the valve opens quickly to dump the excess plenum pressure.

Again it depends how the valve has been installed as you can use the DV as a boost control or a Dump

I supose it depends what the plenum pressure is?
