basically a charge cooler (water - air) is better at short periods of boost eg drag stip as it has the ability (fluid dependant) to get down to below ambient temps for a short period of time.

An advantage of an intercooler is that it (generally) has no moving parts to fail. |

well intercooler will only cool to ambient temps where as a charge cooler will always go colder!! so if its a hot day at the drap stip u can run a nice cool charge compared to a intercooler!!

yeah but excort cossie was crap because it ran the coolant from a hot engine through it rather than a separate tank of cold water |

There is a chap with a red mini, miglia arches, 12" spectrums, at bristol mini day quite often, and was at combe. That was running a charge cooler, and it seemed to work quite well. But thats all i know. Sorry Chaps. On 15th Jul, 2009 fastcarl said:

i use a chargecooler, no need for holes in the bonnet and its much easier to position than an intercooler |

well say its a hot day u will always notice a lack of power compared to when youve got a nice cool day in a car thats running a intercooler where as if you have a charge cooler the water is below ambient temps regardless of how hot the day is...

Cars on track will warm the water, simple.. its only good for short bursts IMO.

You can't generalise on how the system will perform. It depends on many factors such as the water pump flow and radiator size (to reject heat from the water)

There must be some rocket science to this, that we arent understanding...... Having owned and driven cars with both A2A, and A2W coolers.....I havent experienced what this guy explains above. 9.85 @ 145mph

Ive seen Europes fastest drag truck, which runs compound turbos, and I assume a hell of a lot of boost. The Intercooler on it was absolutely huge, so I can only imagine the forces within it !! As for the A2W setups you pictured. Cant comment on the quality of those shown, but that style is very popular in the US for drag racers. 9.85 @ 145mph
