Saw this on another forum and thought i must show you lot. Never given the ago any thought before.

My rear mini yokos are getting very old now they must be 8 years if not more. Not have to worry about the fronts though lol.

the rears on my first mini are still the ones from when i bought it, they was hakf warn the, im off to check them in the morning lol

7 years old on the rear of the 106, i have seen crap tryes before, learn about how to read tyres at my old job, always check tyres before i get them put on now lol :)

If tyres are stored properly, they can last pretty well...

I wouldn't be worried on a everyday transport (ie. not racecar) I've NEVER heard of this happen in Norway, not on a car. Lorries are a different story, byt they are remoulded.

Makes you think sure but then again the US has a very clucking mother hen attitude about H&S.

Can anyone here confirm they're reading the right numbers?
And why don't they say anything about the conditions of the roads on which the tyres are driven?

had a tyre completely loose its tread once, liek it just peeled off like an orange skin, at 100+mph in the outside lane. thankfully it was in the jag and not the mini, wish id known this then, would have been interesting to check the dates as the tyres wernt that old :(

EDIT , replaced them all to be on the safe side but would have been interesting to know!

Hi,
There's more than just age that can cause a tyre to fail. You can't condemn one just because of it's age.
Structrual failure can happen on new and old if they've been damaged earlier by a pothole or the like.
