Got myself a nice Avonbar actuator so I can set my base boost pressure around the 8psi level.
However I would like to be able to raise the boost to around 15psi when required. I quite like the idea of having 2 bleed valves, one locked @ 15psi under the bonnet & a nice looking adjustable one mounted in the dash inside the car.

Can anyone recommend a suitable pair of valves for this and perhaps where to buy them from?

Quite fancy something like a red anodised one in the car.

Just don't use a bleed valve, use a boost controller, look a the lines from greddy etc......they are far more accurate and less likely to boost spike!!!!

As said, don't use a bleed valve they're not very good - you want to be looking for one with a ball and spring - there's plenty about.

However, I don't quite see how you'll use 2 - how will you switch between them?

i dont know if its possible, but i think he means using them inline, so he cant go over 15psi?

thats right barry. want to plumb them in inline. one locked to 15psi so that i can't go above it.

An electronic boost controller is a bit rich for me unfortunately.

It is entirely possible, my setup uses a 3 pipe bleed valve under the bonnet and instead of bleeding to atmosphere the 3rd pipe is connected to an air solanoid - i can open and close this at on the flick of a switch to go between my actuators 10psi and the bled off higher boost setting.

Just bear in mind if your fuelling etc is all set for high boost your low boost setting will not really fuel properly and voice versa

ive swapped from a £10 bleed valve to an £10 mbc on my t5, and the boost is steady/constant now, with the bleed valve it used to tail off a psi or 2 (wastegate creep?)

I use a bleed valve and have NEVER had a boost spike. There are much cheaper if your on a budget like some people are.

It doesn't really work that way - if one is set higher than the other, then its the higher boost that will run all the time - so by setting one at 15PSi all the time will mean your minimum boost is 15PSi.

use one, set it to 15psi. have the fueling set-up. then use your right foot to control things. simpler, cheaper, lighter, better.

Aye - I have one boost controller and one boost level - lots.

Mine will be like this, not sure if the pic works though http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=10015 This way the actuator will be the low boost setting and the mbc/bleed valve will determine the high setting when you flick the switch.

Lol maybe i will just do that instead. That was my original plan. but thought less boost may be a good idea for cruise.

That's what i mean, set your bleed valve to 15psi with the solenoid open, then when you want less just turn the switch off.

When you're cruising you won't be on boost.

well perhaps thats the decision made then. 15psi-ish no bleed valve.

now i wonder if my bottom end can take it?

You obviously still need a ride in the BENROSS challenge motor!

£127 for 2 bleed valves, spring loaded (lime an mbc) t-piece and a solenoid?

either use a bleed valve / mbc or bleed/mbc wiht a solenoid for 2 stage . electronic boost controllers are only any use if your constantly changeing boost, or if they have the ability to do gear-dependant boost controll! im a fan of bleed valves, tehre simple, reliable, and coz there under the bonet your not tempted to tweak them mid-race :)

I'm glad this topic has been raised, just as Im looking to rework my non opperational boost controll. What solenoids do people use for this? I tried one off a Scooby but it wouldnt flow any more than 6 psi!
Sorry for the hijack
