Has anyone else considered fitting this or is it just me? Lol

I don't know all that much about how it works but im thinking it could be a good way to help with my torque steer issues?

The corsa column + ecu adaptor doesn't look all that difficult to install or expensive, but not sure if it would be much of an advantage or not? Or if the 'mini go-kart feel' would be lost or maybe improved?

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Cheers
Matt

Torque steer should be solvable with suspension setup TBH. The DON does not torque steer, mainly because the suspension is all rose jointed.

Those colunms are fooking heavy. You couldn't undo all your hard work by fitting one

If you have torque steer, and your geometry is in spec, you need to revise your offset to bring the contact patch closer to the KPI contact.
It is that simple - if you don't believe me fit a set of boggo metro wheels and try it.

oh, and yes - the 16v boys have a lot of stuff on the corsa columns on their site, but it is one SERIOUSLY HEAVY piece of equipment, plus you need to add bracing (weight) to make it happen.

I'd be interested to see how much weight a talented fella like you could get out of the corsa column though :)

I drove a scooby with an electirc P/S set up, it worked really well and felt fine. Can't help you out with issues fitting ect though.

Hmm some interesting points! I'd be interested to find out how much they weigh, they do look 'all there'. lol Thats the only real negative I could see with fitting one. Ive been scanning the 16v forum...lots of info but not found anything on weight yet?

The geometry is correctly set now and that has made a huge improved to the torque steer and general handling!

Sounds like I need to get hold of some inset wheels to see what effect they have. Although im guessing the geometry would need adjusting again just to try it?

I might see if I can get hold of a steering column and see what mods can be made to shed some of the weight anyway. :)

I just had a look on ebay to see how much they go for. I had no idea they were so cheap!

Matty is your front suspension rose jointed?

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

James, that would be spot on if you could! If its stupidy heavy then I won't bother. Pics are always good. :)

Yeah they are damn cheap, so no great loss if it doesn't work apart from a little time.

Paul - no rose joints what so ever, is the ride ok on a road car?

Yes it is Matty, I got rid of a lot of what I thought was torque steer by fitting RJ bottom arms and tie bars then setting tracking parallel.
What was happening was as a wheel lost traction due to being stiffly sprung on bumpy roads, the car went in the direction the other wheel was pointing. As it was set toe out, the wheel with traction wasnt actually pointing forwards. It was all exagerrated by the Salisbury plate diff.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Which funnily enough is the diff fitted to most cars that have PAS conversions (probably unnecessarily judging by your comments!))

Hi,
I'm thinking of fitting one just because I'm lazy! The MGF column is worth a look as I think all the mpi switches etc will fit?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

We considered this conversion at one point, but in the end fitted UJs in the column to get the steering wheel in a better position.

Having said that we have no issues with torque steer with 7x13s fitted.
