A bit OT but I know you younguns know about these things.

I have had a contract for years. It's a bit odd because I use the O2 network but pay Vodafone business. This dates back to when VF bought a business that provided O2 contracts.

I rarely use the phone - last month I made 6 texts and this is the norm unless I'm on holiday. When I'm on holiday I use it to keep in touch with the lads and use it to connect the Motorhome PC or laptop to the net.

I've worked out that I can save a bit by using Pay-As-You-Talk. You can get a Nokia 6300 that will do all the features I need for £85 and then the calls/texts are 20/10p respectively.

I'm not sure about the net access though.

So I rang up Vodafone Customer Service to find out.

How the hell do you actually get hold of someone to talk to to ask a simple question? Bloody umpteen recorded messages and options but not one relavant to my question.

Is this the norm for Vodafone - are they that bad?

I just want to know if I can access the net in the UK and Europe with the Pay-As-You-Talk tarrif without having to pay any extra.

Thats all well and good till you get abroad, when your credit disappears in 3 minutes.

But they then have a habit of telling you one thing but doing another!

If you're using the o2 network at the moment, then you're probably best sticking with o2 as they do seem to have the best coverage overall - speak to o2 as they do bolt on's for pay as you go for net access etc... however you'll need to discuss the usage abroad as most companies will charge you through the roof for it.

Just found the Vodafone webpage that states £5 per MB from within France *surprised*

Some are even more than that!

If you speak to o2, I'm sure they do a Europe bolt on so each time you go away you can phone them and add a certain amount on although I'm sure that works out to £1 per mb. Either way, on a domestic tariff it'll never be cheap using it abroad.

Finally managed to get hold of a human being at Vodafone Business.

He advised that net access on their Pay-As-You-Talk is not available. He then transfered me to their telesales and I was left on hold for five minutes after which I hung up *angry*

O2 bolt on for web-access is £7.50 a month plus call charges.

Defeats the object really.

Unless vodafone give me a bloody great deal and good phone when my contract is up for renewal, I'm walking.

Never really been that happy with them from a customer service point of view.

Well, in the end got hold of someone to talk to.

They have put me on a cheaper contract that will save me a couple of quid a month.

Got a new phone for free as well.

But the net access is still going to be £1.50 per MB in the UK and £5 per MB from France.

Just have to stay off the net when I'm abroad.
