ok, here goes.

i turboed my clubman just before christmas and since then its been lots of "fun", spec as follows...

1275cc
mg cam
orange clutch
rebuilt std box 2.9 fd
ngk7es plugs
maniflow twin box system
sock filter
std turbo head and turbo assembly

the first run on the rollers showed 98bhp and 103 torques however the fueling was to rich at idle so after turning it down the next run showed 95bhp and 98 torques however the fueling wasnt right and the car spluttered and kangarooed a bit on the road at aroud 3-4k rpm full throttle

after seting the fuel presure on a foot pump gauge to 5ish psi and polishing the needle slightly it went a lot better but still wasnt perfect so on the rollers it went, it turned out my 5psi was 12psi so that got turned down to 5.5psi.

the first run was pants and the thing spluttered and kangaroed to make about 82bhp so i turned the fuel pressure up a bit and the next run made 92ish bhp .

I eventualy set the fuel pressure to 12psi and the thing made 115bhp and 118 torques at 7psi of boost however the midrange was still rubbish

the next day my alternator died and the engine ran hot for a while, i sorted it at my mates and went round to the gfs. i parked up and realized it was poping at idle, i reconed it was the head gasket so next morning i picked up a headset and pulled the cylinder head off in 30mins by laving the turbo in place and found number 3 had water going into it from a gallery, while the head was off i took the peaks out with a grinding stone and rounded off the sharp spots in the chambers and polished them up a bit, i droped the head back on and was making the hole in the new plen to carb gasket when i took an interest in how the restrictor bit works,
i then figured out why the fuelings rubbish.......:$
.....in my rush to get the turbo assembly in i left the heatshield off as it fowled the baulkhead box as i havent moved or tilted the engine, ive had a bit or training as an engineer so wouldnt have dreampt that austinrover would put through holes into the plenium to hold a heatsheild on with what looked like self tapping bolts, would you guess what.... thay had *surprised*

the two holes were leaking boost and more importantly signal to the the fuel presure regulator , ive droped the fuel presure to just under 0.5 of a bar on my boost gauge but it dies badly on boost now so i recon its getting too much fuel on boost now, il try an get it down to the rollers this week for a pressure set and run *oh well*

il get pics on here this week and a vid of the rolling road sesh *happy* honest*happy*

Messing with the base fuel pressure isn't the way to sort thr fuelling. Set the base fuel pressure to 3.5-4psi, then sort the fuelling out with the needle.

Tom's right. Have you got the proper fuel pressure valve?

Love the Clubman.

Which rolling road did you go to? I'd like to avoid them if possible.

i know the base fueling should be 5ish psi but set at that it was pants so i turned it back up to 12 after a few runs and it worked a lot better, i was reconing the pressure regulator was shot untill i spotted those darn holes :$

current plans for the car are black miglia arches and 8x10 wellers, ive also got ambitions towards loosing 100kg

It shouldn't be 5ish psi, it should be 3-3.5 psi. If this doesn't work, then you've got a different problem.

I'm asking you again, DO YOU HAVE THE CORRECT FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR??????

Considering how the carb works I'm not sure how increasing the fuel pressure will make any differance. However at 12psi I suspect that the float fave will leak causing all kinds of fuelling issues.

sorry vegard, it off a mety turbo so should be right. 3-3.5psi is usefull information il set it to that asap

the 12 psi was due to a rubbish footpump gauge (im poor) that read it as 5 psi, it drove fine as long as i didnt blast it when warmed up.
The car looks ok in those pics but its starting to look a bit battered now, chances are il respray it this summer once ive got a grp front, and sorted the bits of rust its got

ok, i replaced most of the carbs internals (jet tube, springy metal jet tube holder and ajustment screw) as the adjustment screw departed company with the carb the other day (i limped it home on the choke 15 miles) after setting the fuel pressure and making a guess at the mixture setting the thing works properly now, il try and get the fueling setup on the rollers but im glad to have finaly got this fueling thing sorted *Clapping*

im retarded... i forgot my password for a month *Jester*

anyway, ive welded in a 1" box frame for the driver seat, sorted the pressure thing out and got some miglia arches *Yes*
my cunning plan is to drop an avonbar hight boost needle in as its lean in the midrange due to the cam and no boost modulator, then drop it on the rollers and hide *hehe!*
