Heres the scenario

Car gets stolen

Insurance company feck about for ages but eventually pay a sum of money

We then replace the car and get new insurance.

On checking the new insurance docs the previous insurance company (one where the claim was made) have advised the new insures that the total costs for the loss of the car were more than 5k !!!! over what I received in a paid out!

Apparently this was due to costs incurred (storage, transport) *surprised*

Now this has to affect my current insurance as the claim I made was more expensive.. *angry*

Is this correct??

ask the old insurance company to send you an account of the costs of the claim.

Tell them it's for your records as future insurance companies will need the info.

Speak to your new insurance too, technicaly you've given them bad information potentialy voiding your policy - not that this is your fault. You can only tell them what you know...

I don't think you've actually given your new insurers bad information if you told them what the claim (ie, payout to you) was - they will know the bill to the previous insurer will be higher because of storage, transport etc. but, as above, best to tell them you are now aware that the actual bill was a lot higher than the amount you received and stated on your application.

All these other bits cost money and if there was no other "guilty" driver's insurance company to pay up, your previous insurers had to....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

I remember finding out how much the claim cost the other guy when the Audi got hit a few years ago. I knew how much the repairs cost but I had a courtesy car for nearly a month which was costing nearly £600 a week apparently. I now know why they were talking about an un-economic repair

Adrian Flux. Turbo+150 horses+ fully adjustable suspension+miles limited to 3000= 130 quid. .
But that might also be due to the hint in my signature. Hmm, old fart gets cheap insurance ha ha

It's not the age that makes me creak it's the mileage

When My bike got totaled from a rear end shunt I was advised by my insureance leagal cover team to collect the bike as soon as possible useing the breakdown cover that came with the policy thereby reducing storage and transportation costs.
