Hi again guys, just a couple of questions on the clutch. I have a pre verto setup on my new engine. This didn't come with a slave cylinder or slave cylinder bracket.

my questions are;

Should there be a mounting braket for the slave cylinder? (sililar to verto clutch)

and

Can i use the slave cylinder from my old engine (verto)?

thanks in advance

the pre verto slave bolts to the transfer gear casing.

it has been known for people to use the verto slave on a pre-verto set up but you really should pay the peanuts and get the right part

As above, it bolts straight on (no bracket) but apart from a slight size difference, the real issue is the verto one doesn't have the tag for the return spring - pre-verto has a return spring to hold the longer arm against the adjustable return stop whereas the verto is self adjusting so doesn't have a return spring and stop.

When you order, check it's supplied with the return spring tag - sometimes they are not (they assume you already have one) - it is sandwiched between the bleed nipple and the body of the cylinder.

No - that's the one on the end of the arm (although you may need that too?)

I think the egg shaped tag on the slave cylinder is NLA and they invariably don't come with one. Bit if a bugger as they are easily lost!

Also check the bleed nipple (depending on how you feel about having to find/use metric spanners when working on minis) as they normally seem to come as 10mm A/F rather than the origninal 3/8" A/F

For reference the part number of the NLA tag is 23600

You may get one from somewhere who also deals in secondhand parts - Somerford, Min-e-Bitz etc? Or a Wnated ad on here?

So i can use my current verto cylinder to get the engine up and running but it's worth changing to the correct one asap?

Two issues (apart from the minor size difference)

1 - the hose comes out in a different direction so it is hard to get the hose to run right (it uses a banjo connector (90 degrees) rather than a straight connector)

2 - it doesn't have the tag for the return spring - there is a big lug at the back that you could bodge a spring to fit over, but not the standard spring...

Yes, it's possible, but not right......

I made a tag for the slave cylinder from an M10 penny washer, cut it to shape and drilled a small hole for the spring. Jobs a gud un

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
