Hi chaps, before I make too many posts all over the forum and people start wondering who in earth I am, I thought I'd say a little hello in here :)

I've been a member on TMF and MF for years now, but havn't really started posting much until lately. I only recently found this forum, when Frenchman (see into a few threads down) told me about it.

I really like the site, and there seems to be a load of technical knowledge on here, which is great.

I've currently got a fairly stripped and raw 1380 5 port running a weber 45 and about 115bhp, and I've decided I need LOTS more power, so I'm going to build my own blow through supercharger setup using a front mounted eaton M45, and a turbo fuelling setup.

Anyway, enough ranting, here's the car:

Cheers

it sure is a plywood boot floor!

I've got a flat alloy fuel tank in there hidden under it:

and I didn't really feel happy putting stuff directly onto the tank, so I made up some runners either side of the tank, and some across the top, and made up a plywood floor to hide the tank totally:

I've since sorted that breather, with a neater length that runs up around the rear arch and down through the original hole.

The custom tank means I've ended up with a HUGE boot, which is cool for trips out and shows and stuff.

Cheers Rich, I am indeed, although sadly, due to being poor, the car is stored at my parents home in cornwall, in a locked garage, with a big security bollard and a wheel clamp on it.

I had it in portsmouth (parked in southsea) for about a month 2 years ago, and in that month, my CF bonnet got cracked, both my mirrors were ripped off, and it was keyed. So until I can afford a place with a garage, it's staying hidden away in the depths of cornwall!

Yea I do! I rode trials with him years ago, I think he rode a yellow leeson. then he got into beetles I seem to recall, I went down to pyramids once to rescue him after it had dumped all it's oil in the carpark.

I see you have a skid bus (from your engine thread), do you know any of the locals? Russ and Dan with the cossies? Gander with the RB30 S13?

Ahhh thought so, I went to college with him and remember him mentioning he had a mate with a red mini from Cornwall.

Yeah I have an s13 and know of Gander but dont know him, and dont know anyone with cossies unfortunately haha.

haha, yea man, that's almost certainly me!

Like you I know of gander, and see his car around, but I've never spoken to him outside of SXOC. I very nearly swapped my dailly 20vt A3 for a mint S14 late last year. had an E36 M3 for a while, and decided I'd rather have an SX.

Trying to persuede my mate to sell his DC2 integra for an S14a at the moment but he's scared of the rear wheel drive goodness haha.

Where about are you living then?

Cheers for all the comments guys, much appreciated.

Rich: I'm not going to get an S-body for now, I decided against it when I realised I'd rather put all my efforts towards the mini, I do too much mileage dailly to have a 'dailly project' again. my dailly 20vt audi is running around 220bhp now, so that gets me to the shops and back just fine :)

Benross: Why would you recommend turbocharging over supercharging? I know superchargers are less efficient, but they also don't suffer from lag at all do they? I'm thinking if a vmax suck through kit can reach 150bhp with no intercooler and crazy high charge temps, surely a blow through intercooled setup at 12psi will be able to make 160bhp or so?

For years I've been massively against FI in a mini, kidding myself that I love my highly strung high revving n/a motor. I've now realised I need more, and that's why I'm looking at supercharging still, I've currently got a mspd phase3 cam, which apparently works very well with a supercharged setup, with timming 270/270 and low overlap. I like my mini engine to be fairly high revving, with a linear power delivery

Once you feel proper Turbo lag you will unethically love it!

The Mini is very nice mate.

haha, cheers James. I have to deal with turbo lag every day I'm afraid, my dailly runs about 22psi, and although it's fairly quick to spool, it can still be laggy if you don't use the gearbox enough.

I just really fancy trying to make my own blow through setup really, I think it'll be different, and keep much of the n/a character of my current engine.

I'm planning on rebuilding my 1380 with 18cc acralites later in the year. it's an all steel bottom end currently, so it's more than capable of taking the extra power and torque, I just need to get the CR down, and find myself a decent second hand turbo head.

you don't need a genuine turbo head. see benross or turbophil mate

IMO speak to Benross or Turbo Phil for your head. Dont pay genuine metro turbo tax.

if you already have an all steel bottom end, going forged accralites, get a fully sorted head for one of the two resident members. It would be a shame not to put that set-up through its paces with some proper boost....(read turbo)

My mate has an Ibiza cupra running 25+ psi (actuator signal pipe was disconnected and he didnt realise! so the turbo had a free run! and its a k03s sooo) rolling roaded at 255 bananas. Thats not real turbo lag! haha Its alot more boring and tame than proper lag! haha.

Even my mates punto GT was more exiting...and that thing was horrible!
