I thought after being registered on here for nearly a year I should post up some photos of my car.

It's a '66 Super Deluxe running 1293 n/a engine on twin 1.1/2" SUs, MED head and bottom end, Swiftune SW23 cam, 4 synchro SCCR box with Quaiffe ATB diff (purchased through the group buy - Cheers again Iain) on HS outputs.

The main changes for this year in the quest for a 1/4 mile in the 14's are raised compression (now 11.5:1, up from 10.8:1), carbs have had some work done on butterflys and spindles, ATB diff, Paul Wiginton windage tray (cheers Paul) and mechanical fan removed and replaced with electric.

It pulls much more strongly and is running significantly richer needles with the plugs looking good and everything sounding sweet. Just need to get it on the rollers to get the set up spot on. It ran 15.148 last year so fingers crossed. Next on the list will be loosing some weight from the car as it is still all steel and glass and I hate to think how much it weighs....

In the work shop.

Freshly built in the right colour.

Doesn't look like much, but it works....

Luxury interior, everything you could need.

Some of you may have seen the car last year at Avon and it it will be good to meet the rest of you this year. I guess this posting lark gets easier with time, it has just taken about an hour to put all this together!

Looks good mate. I'll have to come and have lokok at the competition at Avon, as im now in class B for this year, although im happy with times in the high 15s with my semi road weight car.

Dont go and butcher that Mk1 shell in the quest for weight reduction, will you *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Super job Keith,
don’t mind anyone who tells you it will blow with that compression I am running my 998 just a shade lower and it pulls like a train now on 5500 miles and no problems. The only thing to be careful with is temp they like to melt gaskets at full chat when they get hot.
Nice car looking forward to see it at Avon

Cheers for the positive comments guys, it is really appreciated!

Don't worry, the car won't be cut about to loose weight, it broke my heart enough to drill the holes to mount the arches. I try and mount and route as much as I can without have to drill or cut extra holes in the body. It is amazing how many extra holes the factory provide in convenient places.

Don't think I'll be doing close to 5,000 miles in the car, the 4.1 diff means about 5,000 rpm to do 70 mph and even with earplugs there is only so long you can take it! Cooling doesn't seem to be an issue even with the mechanical fan removed, with an 82 thermostat it seems to sit between 70 and 80 when moving and the electric fan only cuts in at real slow speeds or when stopped.

Love it.

Saw something similar on Saturday when I went to pick up my trailer. Lovely red Cooper S stripped out and setup for historic saloon racing. 148hp Bill Richards engine.

The pure simplicity and racing pedigree make these older NA cars very appealing.
